..Well today was the last ''official'' Trans-Oceanic flight for the C141. We had a big ceremony and a final salute. There are only 9 left used in the Mil today, soon they will all be retired to the bone yard.

Oh dont get me wrong they are the closest to commercial passenger wise the Mil has and also has the biggest cargo comparment. Its just that since its so big, something usually goes wrong. Or maybe its jus the flight crews makin up shit so they can stay another nite drinking in Germany.

Are you bein serious Tony? Its been in the works for years, they already have been handed down to the ANG. But by now there are no more in Europe the last one flew home the other day. Now C-17s will be used for AE. On another note anyone who knows of what Rhein Mein is, well yea its been closed also. We have taken on all their cargo/Pax flights so; YAY! 60 hour workweeks!!

I guess I still think back to when I lived in Anchorage, all you ever saw were C141's at Elmendorf.. I think my dad did mention that they were going to phase them out but I didnt take him seriously.

well the "bone yard" is home to alot of retired aircraft, but I was watching the history channel and they were saying that about 85% of them can be re-comissioned in a matter of weeks for operational use.....

so hopefully those billion dollar planes will do more work later down the road?

True, aircrafts arent completely torn down and destroyed, but the 141 has done its missions, it has more then covered its worth. Now its time for a new age of technology, and just wait for the C5 to be replaced, Russia has a NICE version which is also bigger. But there cargo hold area is a lil outdated, bc its wooden floored and all pallets are moved by crane. But with 6 engines compared to the C5's 4, it has great potential.

so the russians are a little outdated... their planes are sorta more rugged too

and Americans are more advanced

why nto combine the two or something ( yea right... lol )

Guess ur the one thats out dated. We deal with the Russians as allies on a daily basis. Takin ideas from them, and building a new aircraft wouldnt suprise me at all.

granted Russian govt isnt as organized as the US, but they do know what to spend their money on.....Military. From what I have heard they damn near have a unlimited budget for R&D.....and the big business they are in is building planes...they sell cargo planes to countries all over the world....
