View Full Version : Areas to look around to buy a house...

Nemesis

In the coming months since my lease is expiring, I will be looking to buy a house. However, Im not sure of the following:

1. Where to look (im wanting to stay around Atlanta)

2. Price range ( I currently pay around 1200 a month for rent before any utilities so probably around that)

Any ideas? Im possibly looking towards Alpharetta...Gwinnett (long shot) ...or further up North. Commutting under an hour to Buckhead is a big plus.

I live inside the perimeter in Decatur and the houses are pretty convenient and right now are going at a good rate. The mortgage for my house is around $850 a month. :goodjob: I live ten miles from the Varsity on city streets, just for an idea.

Based on $1,200 a month at 30 years and about 5.5%, you're looking at the $200,000- $220,000 range or so. Which you might have a tough time with in Alpharetta. You could certainly find one, but the neighborhood itself might be kind of crummy and old.

I live in Lawrenceville, 4 bedroom, 2 bath. REALLY quiet neighborhood. Shit, I leave my windows open sometimes at night, NEVER gotten anything stolen. We bought the house as a foreclosure in 2005 or 2006, not sure lol.

With Farmers insurance its $948 a month on 30yrs with a 5.25% interest.

:goodjob:

House > Townhome. You're still a few feet next to your neighbhor..

Where at? Every where I've driven around in Alpharetta I haven't seen townhomes that low.

There are soooo many deals out there right now! My husband and I are under contract with a house in Bethlehem. We ran across a deal that we just couldn't let go. I have 2 realtors that are AWESOME to work with, and I would be more than happy to give you their information if you are interested.

I would say Kennesaw and Canton, Ive lived in that area for some time now and really like it, not too far from ATL. And in Canton you can find some gorgeous houses in a very nice, well maintained area for a good price.

and lets be real....

you drive a Mustang, I drive a Mustang, you should trust me.. (no homo)

wait... yes homo...

The entire Cobb area is pretty good as B and the others have already said. Getting a house in Smyrna is expensive because they end up calling all the subdivisions "Vinings _____" then putting a higher price tag on the houses.

BobbyFresco

Cherokee county is where it's at...Go look at houses out that way...You will not be disappointed.

Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Marietta (east of 75), Roswell, Alpharetta. But these areas are a little more expensive. I would not live in Gwinnet.

Cobb, Paulding, Douglas etc. .... lower taxes...
