Ok so I just got an '00 Tl and decided to look up the specs again and came across this apparent problem with the sportshift tranny:thinking:. I mean the clock is readin kinda high (like 180k) and when i test drove it and well have been driving it the trans is fine no problems whatsoever ( in fact its really damn smooth like a new car :D). Well I keep looking on other forums about them dying out but a lot of the posts are old. So im trying to be proactive. Anybody have any experience with the problem or know of any symptoms/preventative measures?? Any help would be welcome:goodjob:

hate to be the bearer of bad news but what you read is true.

I had a '01 CL that was a blast to drive - that is until the tranny crapped out on me - the life of the tranny varies and it depends on how hard the car was driven. I only had to replace it once and then I sold it but I've heard stories of people replacing it 3-4 times.

Is this the first tranny on the car? They did a recall back in 01-02 but even if you take that into account the tranny probably has over 100k on it? The thing is it'll come abruptly so easy driving doesn't really help - it happened to my grandpa's honda odyssey as well... overall honda fucked up in 99-03 with those trannies.

wow i thought it was just the tl's i know my mom had the same issue with her '02 civic like she had to replace the transmission and it still smokes all over the place. i mean is there anything i can do at all? I haven't gotten a chance to look up the vin. I heard its some sort of problem with the oil line not properly cooling the 2nd or 3rd clutch pack or something.

From what I read about the problem there's really nothing it you do about it, it's just the flaw of the design. I even had a tranny cooler but it's didn't really help.

97-03 Accords, 99-03 TL, 01-03 CL, 99-03/4 Odysseys

Overall they're great cars, just the trannies are prone to failure even after you rebuild/get a new one.

well i got it now so cant really do shit about it..other than sell it or something. I mean its a shame i truly like the car from how it drives but i guess now i gotta worry about it..

the 98-02 accords, the TL's those years, the CL's

all have tranny issues. the one on my car gave out and i grandma'd my car.

just keep in mind to never flush it, and only use honda / acura ATF as it has a special friction modifier.

i'll def. keep that in mind. but i heard it was on some not all of them. but from what i keep readin it seems like all have had this issue. I also read something about it just being that the 3 gear just overheats and wears down fast due not getting enough lubrication or something. I also read that there is a fix for this as well. well i know there is a problem but there has gotta be something i can do eventually.
