A Suwanee teenager has died in a crash Gwinnett County (http://g.ajc.com/r/Cm/) police said occurred during a street race.
Alexander W. Lebar, 18, was killed Friday afternoon when his car spun out of control at a curve on Suwanee Creek Road and collided with a mailbox and tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Gwinnett police said.
Investigators determined that Lebar and a friend, 18-year-old Reymond C. Edwards of Suwanee, were racing each other when Lebar crashed about 4:45 p.m. Edwards continued on after the crash happened but later returned, according to police.
Neither Edwards nor his passenger was injured. Police arrested Edwards on charges of racing and reckless driving. He was released Saturday on bond from the Gwinnett County (http://g.ajc.com/r/Cm/) Detention Center.
Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

I agree with QD on both accounts.
This is good news, 1 street racer dies before he gets a chance to kill someone else, and hopefully another spends some time behind bars. The only better outcome would be if both died because of their own stupidity.

High speeds + rapid deceleration = ouch.
They need to hurry up and invent inertial dampers. That stuff can really save lives.

This is a tragedy. Not in so much the respect that someone died, he made his choice when he hit the gas pedal. But a tragedy in the fact that no one seems to ever learn from these events. To completely honest I am being a bit of a hypocrite because I used to street race, had friends die and it didn't stop me... Only time and growing up got me out (and getting really tired of dealing with the legal system). But someone's child is dead, someone’s friend will never return, yet the posts in this thread are predictable. Those who abhor street racing rejoice his death while those who participate in it shake their head and say it will never happen to them. Just like I did… Just like this kid did. I'm sure he had "skill" too... 4:30 in the morning??? Why there's no traffic so he was being "safe"... and I'm sure he knew the "limits" of his car. It's a sad ending to stupid act. But at least he died doing what he loved, right? I feel pity for the ones he left behind, they didn't get a choice. Can you be killed driving to work on 285 Monday? Sure. Anything can happen to anyone of us at anytime. But now his family has to deal not only with his death, but the fact he chose to die.
He decided to race his "buddy".
He hit the gas pedal.
He drove the car.
He lost control.
He chose to die.
I wish we didn't have to have threads like these, but as long as there are cars there will be races. As long as there are races there will be fatalities. I wish they could just be limited to the track, but with Killsforum, It's my grandma's car.net and countless other forums dedicated to street racing, it is here to stay. So are the fatalities. I pray the deaths would be limited to those who participate but sadly, that is not always the case. Next time you go street racing, I don't wish you harm or death. I wish you would reconsider doing it. The next thread might be about you or the innocent person you hurt/killed.
Didn't know the guy, but may God rest his soul.

I'm pretty sure NO ONE here is rejoicing. This is a sad time for many involved, but I simply don't care since I'm not directly involved.
However:

T But someone's child is dead, someone’s friend will never return,
I agree with this part 100% and I truely do feel sorry for this idiots family and friends. At the same time, I have absolutely no smypathy for this kid and his equally dumb friend.
Maybe I am a bad comparison because I have never been a speed freak or racer, but I have never raced before, and I have only reached 90mph maybe 10x in my life when not on a track. ALL of those times were before the age of 22. I know this kid was only 18 and was immature, but even at that ae you should be smart enough to know you cannot tempt fate forever. I learned a long time ago that you can do everything right, and still end up being the one that was killed. When you consider that, why would anyone add additional risk to an already unpredictable situation. Face it people, every time you get in your car and get on the road, your life is in someone else's hands.

Sry but if you wrecked while were racing i am not coming back 4 you no matter how close we where growing up.I just think we both agree to do it which means we both to the risk and he just lucked out.But this is sad that the kid died and i think ppl that thinks its funny should be shot in the head because there is nothing funny about it even if they where doing wrong !
P.S and QD he has just a right to living as you do, u break rules in another way i am sure.I am sry but no 1 diserves to die on this at all.And hey it was 4.30 in the morning who is really out on those streets at that time anyway with there family?

You're right in that everyone has a right to live. But when you start messing with the safety of others, he has every right to go ahead and perish. And thankfully, he did without anyone else going with him.
And for the latter part of this paragraph I say:
PEOPLE, PLEASE READ THE ARTICLE BEFORE MAKING COMMENTS!!!
THIS HAPPENED IN THE AFTERNOON AND NOT IN THE MORNING!!!
And who cares, stay_up, what time it happened? Who are you to say that no one can be coming home at whatever time they come home? All you seem to be doing is justifying this idiot's crime. He got what he deserved and that's that. Later, QD.

Because they where racing. When you are doing something illegal and another the other party dies from it. You can and will be charged with it. I have seen it happen alot of times here in ATL alone. Eventually he will be rearrested.
Im sorry but if i was racing , it would be a hard desicion on too stop or keep going. We all know what can happen, thats why i personally dont street race anymore. A few minutes of satisfactionisnt worth it too me. I rather do it on the track, where i know ill be safe if anything where to happen.

BTW guys.. there are some important details that the news flucked up..as usual.
Alex was not outright "racing" the Accord. Alex had met up with some friends at the park down the street and they all left. Well, Alex went to pass Raymond and during the pass he saw a oncoming car and swerved back over which caused him to spin off the road. According to multiple witnesses, Raymond did not leave.. but stopped and tried to help. The propblem came with the nearly 20 minute response time from the EMT's. Adam, Alex's older brother is a friend of mine....and I simply cannot imagine what he is going through as they were very close. The curve this happened on has claimed many cars too...not just Alex :(
Oh and Raymond's charges do not include anything related to Alex's death.

Frohawk is right he wasn't racing. Alex didnt know how to drive very well and when u brake hard in his car it pulls severely to the left, he hit the brakes and spun around backwards and hit the tree that way. This isnt a case of some stupid kid racing, yes he was trying to pass his friend, but it was driver error he simply didnt know. Alex was a good friend of mine and me and his brother are good friends as well. Like i said this wasnt some stupid ricer racing so keep your comments to yourself please. I know some of you have kids and would never think it would happen to you. This a tragedy and alex will be missed.

perhaps he wasn't 'racing' but i'm sure they were traveling too fast which would still be classified as wreckless driving, and if he had hit another car as opposed to a tree it would still mean that someone else's life could be in jeopardy..

I really don't like to speculate, but honestly, i'd say that if he had hit another car, the outcome might have been better on his end..at the possible cost of injuring others....a 85 Corolla isn't exactly a tank, more like a tin can. With such conditions and the car involved.. it may have taken only going 10mph over the speed limit to cause a fatality and how many of us do 10 over on a regular basis. I guess what i'm saying is it doesn't take someone doing 75mph+ (like many peoplewould be quick to think) to cause a very bad accident.
Heck LeX, you have a 510.... you know how much damage could possibly be done from minimal impact. Think what a tree to the drivers door at 45mph would do... it's not pretty...
-Disclaimer: I'm not stating facts, more or less playing devil's advocate.

Had a idiot try to race me in my FD and he had a 98-02 Accord couple 4 banger ricer bolt on. When are they going to learn?
Prayers for the family, and hope the other guys spends his young adulthood in prison as a lesson and miss the best damn part of his life.

BTW guys.. there are some important details that the news flucked up..as usual.
The curve this happened on has claimed many cars too...not just Alex :(
Oh and Raymond's charges do not include anything related to Alex's death.Whoa, is this the white AE86 from the shop?

Jason- Yes :(Son of a bitch, Adam's brother? I had several people ask me if I had heard about an accident in Suwanee but didn't know who was involved and neither did they. I saw Adam's car at Thomas' party Saturday night but couldn't find him anywhere and then I saw he dipped early...this definitely would explain why.
If the media reported the incident wrong I'd request a statement be made, both for the arrested subject and the family of both. I barely knew Alex but the few times I worked on his car he seemed honest and genuine.
