There is a decent D40 kit for sale for 300 in the For sale section. Thats a pretty good deal for that price range.

$300 isn't going to cut it unless you realize that the $300 is just an initial investment. The approximate amount of cash you will end up spending on a used DSLR camera set-up is going to be in the $450-$500 range since you will want more than one lens.
The D40 is cheap, and very prevalent but you can usually get better deals on the forgotten Canons (XS and XT cameras) if you hunt around on craigslist (there is less demand for those bodies).
all the camers listed abouve are they good beginner/starter cameras and i know that the better i become the more i will spend that pretty much comes with anything in life

i say go with a D50 because of a better choice of less expensive lens.

Nikon just released AFS 35mm f1.8G Dx lens for $200. It is an awesome, sharp, and contrasty lens for whoever have D40/D40x/D60. It is an AFS so it will auto focus with those cameras, unlike the 50mm f1.8/1.4D. With D40+lens kit 18-55mm and this lens, you are good to go. Later down the road if you need longer reach, just get 55-200mm or 70-300mm.
