Whats everyone think? This is the end of my first build, or the end for now at least. Bead blasted, parkerized and final assembly was done today. I am pretty happy with the results. The real test is the next two days (1000 round, 2 day training course).

I have a bajillion other photos of the whole build that i would like to do a whole write up with, ill get to that this summer sometime i hope :D

Comments/suggestions welcome. Special thanks to Dave for dealing with all my retarded questions.

My parkerizing assistant (aka girlfriend) and the ghetto setup on the grill, but it worked, i think.

Bubbly goodness.

Some final assembly shots. Higher quality shots in a week or two, no time tonight.

Well after 8 hours of running this gun in the dust and drit today with sweaty hands, i can now say i like the grip tape aalot. Checkering is now in the near future :D

Also, the instruct who has a wilson 1911 did a demo that i almost started clapping and yelling amen. It went as follows:

Ken (instructor): "whats this" (hold 1911 by the end of the slide in the air, looks like a hatchet)
Me and a couple others: "a tool"
Ken: "exactly, some of you are scared to get dirty, if thats the case put you gun in the safe and LEAVE IT THERE".
Me in my head "amen brother"
Ken: "this is a tool, get it dirty" *turns around and throws it like a baseball at the dirt and rock backstop about 25 feet away, it sinks into the soft soil. he walks over picks it up and*
Ken" get it dirty, beat the hell outa it, it should still RUN" * he then throws it on the ground one last time, chambers a round and fires a magazine through it.*

thought that was good stuff.

Yep.. I feel the same way. I actually did that with my second les bear that I had and my friends thought I was retarded. I have been wanting to run some grip tape for a while but have been scared, haha. Anywho.. When I get done with my blending I will send it to you for the strip and parker that we spoke about before. I am going to try and start it tomorrow. I will let you know when I get the box ready.

How did that ammo work out for you? I got 2 more cases in the mail as we speak so if you need more I can hook you up. Good luck and learn as much as you can.

Gun definitely looks nice danny! I was also wondering how you liked the grip tape.

Having never parkarized a gun before, what all is involved?

Liked the grip tape, checkering just was added to the list of future mods for sure!

Parkerizing was pretty simple.

1. bead blast all parts
2. degrease all parts (lots of break cleaner)
3. heat up parking solution to 200deg
4. dip parts in hot water for 1 min about
5. dunk parts into park solutions for about 13minutes
6. pull parts out and dunk them in warm water a couple times
7. immediately set parts down and DRENCH in lots of oil, wipe oil off then re apply tons of oil and let sit a few hours.
8. clean and assemble

Danny

Two days of running pretty hard and getting tossed in the dirt, rocks and weeds. No malfunctions.

If anyone is interested i can compile a list of mods, i probably should anyways before I forget.

As always, the more comments the better.

thats not dirty.. haha.. glad to see a fellow 1911 owner knows how to treat his stuff. I am working on my again. I got alot of blending done today. I am not sure if i want to try stipling or just break down and buy a checkering kit. anywho.. What are the top three things you learned at your training?

Danny
04-27-2009, 08:57 PM
Top 3 things?
1. refresher of the basics (most important imo)
2. high center chest ready as #3 in the drawl stroke, instead of the side of pec #3 that i had previously known.
3. engaging multiple targets: coming to high center chest ready instead of fully extended or at low/door ready seems like it could potentially be faster and more accurate (less rotating mass to stop directly on target). More practice experience will tell, same with #2.
4. Learned a couple new drills worth remembering
5. I shoot a 298/300 on the georgia police firearms qualification (99.3%)

Got word there is a 1911 1 day course next month sometime. details to follow... yummmyyy

Course- 1911 "operators"
Location- 9 miles east of alabama on I-20
Time- 6.20.2009 0830-1630
Conditions- 98+deg F with 105++ heat index, clear skies

She survived another course with no malfunctions. A dan wesson cbob broke down, par for the course apparently. And a couple others had some malfunctions, a kimber (no surprise there) and a wilson. So far i am happy with this gun. Hope she keeps it up.

Shownin a little wear. Few scratches here and there from rocks/concrete, along with a little holster wear. Not bad imo for a home park job.

Oh ya, new grips shown here. I like them better.

you ccw is an officer right?

The class was pretty cool. The overall level of skill was a little higher than my last course so that makes it better.

The big dude standing next to me in the photos had like 5 1911s, all semi-custom browns and wilson's, crazyness lol.

ooooohhhhhh that is purty... i am pissed right now. i bought 2 dirt bikes (xr200r and a dr650 and a 3 wheeler yesterday). I got them all torn down and cleaned up. I decided to ride it over to my buddys house when we got home from riding on the boat. He lives like 2 blocks away and literally less than .5 miles. A cop pulls me over and writes me 4 tickets...

On a side note. I put my ccw officer up for sale and another rifle i have to hopefully finish my 3 other 1911 projects. TOols look good.

Danny

got the Outside Diameter of the bbl bushing fitted tonight. shes nice a snug. Finger tight, but takes a hair of ass to spin it, just how i think it should be.

started working on the inside diameter, but thats a PITA without a reamer, arghhh. Tomorrow i hope to finish the inside diameter, sandblast the bushing and plug then start facing, crowning and polishing the crown of the bbl.

Just got my fat ass in from running, shower time :D

Ohh and too bad your selling your officer. I really wanna build a stainless govt size out of a colt s70 just to see if i could sell the end product for more than scrap metal prices lol.

Truegiant
