Dealership ?

I want to get a car that's used from one dealership checked out at the manufacturer dealership ( i.e its a Honda at a Toyota dealership, get it inspected at a Honda dealership )

Do I need to call up ahead? What to say, ask, do, etc

tell the dealer that you want to take it to your mechanic to check it out. thats what i did when i got my maxima, they agreed and went with me. i'm sure they will allow you to do that.

id call the honda dealer first and see how much they would charge, and make an appointment, if possible. sounds good. if honda isnt the one selling the car, they should have no problem pointing out the flaws and suggesting that you buy one of the cars on their lot instead, though it is a honda.

Ask them straight up that you want to get it inspected. I think you'll pay 75-90 bucks for an inspection at the Honda place. If the dealership refuses, I say walk away from the deal.

There are simple things you can do as well. I've heard that its a good idea to look at the oil cap and look for browning. Apparently this can happen if the car is run hard on low oil. My old car had it - and yes it was abused (but still ran well till the torque converter died).

Just make sure you get the carfax ... Make sure it wasn't in a serious car accident and make sure it has been taken care of well!
