can you take an 86 jdm rx7 turbo motor and put it into a 91 usdm rx7? straight bolt in now, if it has to be rewired then its not a straight bolt in.

If that is your definition, then no it is not a "straight" bolt-in. But it is pretty close. OMP is different, TPS is different, and a few other small things.

nope if the cars a S5 youll want a S5 motor. you can do a S4 to S5 but its easier to do it with the same series. 85-88 is a S4. 89 91 is a S5

thats what i was lookin for. its not my car, a guy i know is tryin to do this and he thought since the car looks the same everything should plug straight in and run. i tried to explain to him that a redtop sr20 will bolt into an s13 and plug in but if you try and start the car it will catch fire and mazada might be the same way.

edit: any ideas on where i might find an ecu or power plug pinnout. i've checked a few forums but i dont entirely know what im lookin for.

It's down right now. I have the FSMs here at the house, but you would have to get with me on the weekend to get them on CD.

tell him to sell the S4 motor and buy an S5. it will be a much easier swap. especially if you guy are wanting to do it.

ahhh here ya go. this should get you started. http://www.teamfc3s.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=106

buying a new motor isnt really an option, cash. i told him if he wanted to fix it himself to go out and find an s5 harness/ecu/CAS, but hes not going to do that. im not really worried about the wiring, i've put a redtop into an s14(its pretty much the same idea, the s13 and s14 motors are physically the same but the wiring and ecu are completely different), i just know life will be easier if i have the pinout. thanks for that info though, those alt wires would have had me scratchin my head.

edit: iluvmyrx7 is back up :goodjob: . all i gotta say, besides thanks, is wow.

All he really has to do is change the core block and he can be back up and running. Just unbolt everything from the old S5 block and bolt it to the S4 block. Will only take a couple of hours more.

the old motor had popped, so that would be a no go.

He lost an apex seal probably, that is inside the motor (the core). Swap the main block (the core).

maybe i forgot to mention, it was a non turbo car before. i think i found one of the problems though, the plugs are just a little different between the 2 motors. i mean physically they are the same, but some of the wires are in different places.

I figured that it was a non-turbo. All you have to do is take a non-turbo 86-88 motor and strip down the motor to block. Then bolt all of yor S5 accessories on it. It's really not that difficult. Compression will be 9.4:1 instead of the S5's 9.7:1 compression. Other than that, it will work fine.

the n/a s5 motor is blown, he bought a jdm s4 turbo front cut. so you see the problem, the stuff we would need to do that is broken. i am going to enjoy figuring this one out, wiring a nissan is so friggin easy.

Mazda isn't hard. Did his front cut come with the ecu and harness? If so, you are ok. Otherwise, you will need to get an aftermarket ECU (like Haltech), or the complete ECU and harness (off Ebay).

yeah it came with everything, so im assuming the problem has something to do with going from obd0 to obd1.
