I'm trying to decide between the Lexus IS350 and the Genesis Coupe Track 3.8 as my next car. I like the styling on both cars, and the performance is there too. I'd probably get the Genesis with the ZF paddle shifter tranny. I love manual, but paddle shifter seems more DD material. Either way, I love both cars! But just wondering what other people's opinions are... which would you choose?

^ I agree. I'm still a little iffy about the reliability of the first year Genesis. But maybe later down the road, I'll be more assured of its reliability. Maybe... 2nd gen Genesis? lol.

It's still an expensive car, the Genesis. I mean, not IS-F expensive, but not within reach of typical ricers, if you know what I mean.

i like the coupe, but think id deff take the IS
Well I haven't driven a Genesis, but I have driven a IS350, and they are fun cars. Add in the luxury and sex appeal of it, and I'd go for the IS350 for sure. Though, like everyone else, I still like the Genesis.

It's pretty cool to me how we are comparing a Lexus to a Hyundai. Shows that name isn't everything.

Both are great cars. Have not driven the Genesis coupe but it seems to be incredible. Thing is the IS is faster, handles just as well, has 2 more doors (backseats are small) has more luxury and features. Remember new the IS 350 is a 35k-45k car. They are GREAT used buys.
I am big fans of both but I tip my hat to the IS 350. Here is inspiration

Hyundai. 20 year 200000 mile warranty. But the question do you want a coupe or a sedan?
Here's the thing for me:
Picking out an IS 350 is pretty simple, as there's only one trim level. It's very well equipped and includes 17-inch wheels, leather seats, power front seats, automatic dual-zone climate control, a moonroof and an impressive audio system with a six-CD changer. There's an auxiliary jack for MP3 players, and a Mark Levinson 14-speaker, 300-watt 7.1 surround-sound audio system is available individually or as part of an option package that also includes a voice-activated navigation system.
Available are the Luxury package (heated seats and HID headlights) and the Sport package (18-inch wheels, sport-tuned suspension and unique interior details such as aluminum pedals.)
The Genesis comes with sport suspension, Brembo brakes, 19-Inch Wheels, Aluminum Pedals, Leather Heated Seats, LSD, and Sport Suspension. The one thing it doesnt have is the Navi which is supposed to come later this year.
Then there's the price. You could get the 3.8 Track for $31,000 or the IS350 for $42,725 and that's with Tech Package.
Right now in your position I'd get the IS350. DD material. I'd think the Genesis is geared more towards racing the crud out of it on the track and abusing it.

But then again you have literally $11,725 dollars saved and that means modifying it with better stuff and making it look and feel the way you want.

IS350 hands down. For the price, Genesis Coupe.

Thanks for all great responses! Now that I read the responses, I agree with you guys. The Lexus is more DD and Genesis is more race driving.
Quick question while on the topic: Does the ZF tranny paddle shift faster than the Lexus shifters?

Both would be pretty similar, they aren't dual-clutch or automated manuals but rather electronically monitored paddle-shifted slushbox automatics (Meaning ATF and all that).
The ZF paddle-shift box is quite liked by everyone that's driven one.

Yeah. Maybe back in 2000, no one would've compared a Hyundai to a Lexus. But over the years, Hyundai quietly and quickly improved to a whole new level. Gone was the unreliable, cheap cars and came the new reliable, stylish cars. Yeah, I realize that Lexus was the cornerstone in the Asian luxury car market in the U.S. But times have changed, and Hyundai stepped up their game.
Don't think I'm defending Hyundai. I'm not a pissed off Hyundai fan. I'm only stating my opinion. In fact, I'm a Toyota til I die kind of guy. But I still appreciate driving all cars. I still think the Genesis is comparable to the IS350 in lots of ways.

I just don't dig the front end of the IS. Not even he modded ones, but Toyota makes some quality cars, no doubt.

The lexus is a gorgeous car, very refined and undoubtedly reliable. The genesis is Hyundai's FIRST attempt at something not shitty. IMHO it would not be much of a decision for me, Hyundai may be stepping it up.. but they are lightyears away from Lexus, Nissan etc.. And yes, the Genesis looks pretty hard... but still.
is350's are boring.... only thing that does it for me lexus wise, is a LS and the SC everything else lexus to me is a bmw wannabe...
i wouldnt pick either.. id go with the Genesis sedan.
is350>genesis coupe :goodjob:

Yeah, Genesis sedans are nice... but I wouldn't buy it if it was my only car. A sedan of that sort would be a occasional drive for me. I prefer something sporty for a DD, believe it or not.
While on the IS subject... who thinks the IS350 with the 2JZ piloted by Hiro Sumida sounds RIDICULOUS coming down the back straight at Road Atlanta during Formula D?!

I'd rather have a base IS250 than any Genesis, that's not even considering the IS350's engine, that's a no-brainer. Why not get the manual 250 or the AWD version? Good/reliable engine and a perfect daily, and it looks amazing, I check one out every time I see one, I see a Genesis and think "meh."
I just don't understand how anyone would think twice about the Genesis when given such a stellar alternative. I'm going to just start thinking about Genesis owners like I think of Scion owners, all they do is listen to techno and bob to strobe lights, they have no soul (notice: not all Scion owners, I like Scions, just don't want one after seeing the techno display at Varsity, bleh).
Hyundai. 20 year 200000 mile warranty.
Not according to their website.

have you looked at the 06+ GS430? They are a little bigger and not that much more then the is350. They sound great stock. Add CB and they sound amazing. They also handle just as good as the IS35.
Personally I think the genesis coupes are ugly. But the sedans are straight BALLN.

Get the IS250 and with the money you would be saving, make it look sick and turbo that shit!
IS350 style i think slows so much smoother than the genesis.

Agreed. The Genesis sedan is targeted towards the luxury-minded and the looks the part. While the coupe looks cheap and comparable to a Civic, Gti, or Mazda 3, but with a different drivetrain.
I'd definitely get the IS. Looks more luxurious, feels more luxurious, but nowhere sporty. It's too soft and the IS350 only comes in automatic. But between the two, Lexus hands down.

Terrible idea. You cannot turbo and IS 250 and if you coul dit would still be slower than a stock IS 350. The stock IS 350 is a beast of a car.

Yeah, I realize that there are other options out there, but I prefer these two.
I guess, the Lexus really is a no brainer, but the Genesis couple seems like something I want.
I guess when that time of purchasing comes, it'll just depend how much money I got. lol.
