Anyone know of a datsun roadster transmission or parts car? If it's a 1600 model it'll be the 4 speed so I'll need the tranny, tin plate, starter, etc for the swap. But preferably the 5 speed from a 2000 model.

Unfortunately, the only tranny I know of that will work with the U20 is the one from a 2000 or 1600 roadster :(

A datsun U20 5-speed works fine behind L-series engines in 510's but the drive shaft has to be shortened. So any transmission from any L series, 6 cyl or 4 cyl should work. Even a KA tranny should work. You will probably have to have a driveshaft built to a custom length. Finding a roadster 5-speed will be tough and expensive. Good luck. I'll ask around and see if anyone we know has one. You could check in the classified at www.dimequarterly.com. Also, if you come to Road Atlanta for "The Mitty" a club called SEROC (southeast roadster owners club) will be there with many roadsters. They would probably have the best scoop on a U20 tranny.

I'm actually in SEROC, but I lost the e-mail to the leader. We used to (might still do) have a mailing list for parts/help needed.

You just reminded me about this though. lol. I'll get on my mom's computer and try to find the contact :goodjob:
