Never thought I would do this, but i am doing a friend a favor.

(BTW, I think we should have a legal advise thread).

Ok so a friend of mine had to drive from Texas to Georgia. Right after getting on the freeway in Texas, she got a ticket for speeding. No Biggie. She planned on paying it when back home.

Fast forward to this week. Apparently her ticket was due yesterday. She tried to pay it online before but she could not manage. So she was going to mail it in.

However, when she called them, they told her that there is no guarantee that it will reach them in time, and that she may have a warrant out, etc

Question: What does she need to do? She is thinking to still mail in the payment, but is scared about having a warrant etc. Will a warrant in Texas (for speeding) show up in GA? Does she need to contact the courthouse in Texas and explain what happened? Does she need to get a lawyer?

Anyone who knows about this stuff?

If the warrant is issued, her license will also be suspended so it will show up in GA if her license is run. After she pays the fine she will then have to pay to have her license re-instated.

She shouldnt need a lawyer as all she needs to do is get the fine paid and get her license back. A lawyer cannot help with that. She might also want to stay off the road for a week or so.

I HAD SIMILAR SITUATION... BUT I WAS SMART ENOUGH TO OVERNIGHT THE MONEY ORDER TO PAY THE TICKET - THEN YOU GET RECEIPT OF PAYMENT.

It's not as big of a deal as they make it out to be. It's pretty simple (I've had it happen numerous times over the past 10 years) You don't pay, they run a flag in the system and contact the state that your license is out of, the state suspends it until it's paid and cleared. You have to pay it, then show proof it's paid, then pay to have it reinstated and in most cases you just pay the fee and get it back but in some "special" cases you have to redo the drivering test both computer and prac-app.

Also sometimes the state of GA will require you to attend a defensive drivers course and show the certificate to the DMV.

get a money order or official bank check. overnight the check to the department and make a copy of the check before it's mailed. Also send an email notification to the department letting them know her situation and that it has been overnighted to them.
