well i think its about time to ask around about this short shifter irritation i been having. i put a DC Sports Short Shifter into a 99 EX Coupe. It was a simple install...it was so simple I can't figure out why the shifter rubs against the heatshield everytime i am in 5th gear. I made sure everything i took out with the oem shifter i put on the short shifter. It shifts and drives fine...its just a lil annoying when i am crusing in 5th any suggestions besides banging up the heat shield? my buddies civics has the same shifter and don't have this problem and neither of us can figure why it rubs against it

you dont just want to take off or bend over the heat shield? thats about the only thing you can do, unless you want to go by some heat resistant rubber paint kinda stuff i dont know what it is but if you put it on the spot it hits, it will still hit it u just will never hear it. kinda like that stuff they spray in the back of pick up trucks instead of putting liners in it? or maybe just tar. haha

If you know how the short shifter works then you'll understand why it hits...to get the shorter throw, the distance to the linkage below the pivot point is simply extended...making it longer underneath the pivot point.

I've made them a couple times just by cutting an oem shifter half-way between the ball and linkage then weld it back together with a short piece of steel pipe.
