im looking to make 250-300 wheel horsepower with a k20a2!
parts:
buddy club spec 3 cams
cp pistons with eagle rods
individual throttle bodies
battle ground k20 swap header
ferrea valves 6000 series
3 angle valve job
skunk2 springs and retainers.
and getting a good shop to putt all that together for me.
and maybe later doing a k24 bottom end with a type-s head and a dc5 tranny.

will the setup be a good setup to reach my goal?

this is one we did at mainstream. k24 w/ k20a2 head, 11:1 comp, rbc intake, custom tri-y header, s2s3 cams, s2 tb.

here are some other examples:
1. skunk2 did the same build inhouse at 11:1 and made 254whp/191wtq.
2. six sigma did the same build w/ full k20a2/itb's and made 253whp/171wtq.
3. eriksracing did a k24/k20a2 at 13.8:1 comp, rbc, ported head s2s3 cams ssr header and made 330fwhp/237fwtq...should be in the ballpark of 280whp/195wtq.
4. church automotive did the same build as ours w/ 12.5:1 comp and made 307fwhp/224fwtq...should be in the ballpark of 265whp/195wtq.
5. stage3 did the same build as ours w/ 13.7:1 comp and made 292whp/220wtq.

based on these examples i wouldn't say itb are all that and certainly not the best option if you plan on still daily driving...it can be done, but these examples can give you ideas how you want to proceed.

ok.
so get a k24 block with rbc intake, s2s3 cams and a ported head.
since you work at mainstream how much do you think it will cost me to get a ported head?

No Look into a IPS intake Manifold and some IPS KXV cams... and some custom made pistons willing to let you go 50 degree vtc.... that should net 300whp... Also look into a head that flows 350cfm+

13.5:1 compression
IPS intake Manifold
Custom Drag Cartel Cams
k24 block
Portflow head

THe Batlground header, or even the one we sell, will NOT support 300whp. Youll need a custom Hytech or SMSP tailored to your setup.

The Cams you need to run are Skunk2 Stage 3s, or IPS KMEs

You need to run a K24/K20 Head motor (2.0l just wont do it without MAJOR money)

ITBs arent a NECESSITY, but they are nice to have, that or the IPS Manifold if you can get one

You got about a $15,000-20,000 MOTOR staring you in the face good luck. 275-300whp in a street car is honestly way too much, mild K20s make 230whp, and depending on your chassis, thats PLENTY of power

That setup will make 250whp. I would not run the ITBs, i would run an RBC or the IPS manifold if you have the loot.

250whp that header will work, its not the best by any means but it will work.

Pistons i wouldnt run, id get the pistons CHUNKY has , PM him he just made 242whp with a mild setup.

all of this is going into an EG so 250 hp would be very satisfying.
alright, so i'm defiantly going to be on the look out for a k24 block.
rbc intake is like 200. cheaper than itbs
hytech k-swap header and IPS k10 or IPS KXV cams
and eagle rods and s2s3's.
but what about the ips k2's?

ips k2 are for a stock motor if your building a motor i would step up go with IPS k10 or KXV.... but with the KXV make sure you have a deep enough valve relief to run 50 vtc.

cams to choose from if you want 300whp
IPS k10
IPS KXV
Drag Cartel Spec IV
Jeremy Allen Custom Grind

here a picture of the IPS manifold

so would the ips k10 be safe with the setup that i plan on making.
and i know with them i would have to upgrade my valves.

Those connecting rods are about $700 EACH...

Why would you think the IPS manifold is not swap friendly? Look at all the free room

You really do need to go start reading on www.k20a.org.

To everyone saying " go get IPS this or that" do you truly know how long it will take you to get your parts? I would say 6 months AT LEAST. Also how many of you realize cams are $1600 and the intake manifold is $2000. Plus unless you are a butt buddy with nikos or have been swinging off an IPS' affiliates nuts you are NOT gonna get an intake I promise.

I have a stock k24/k20 and it rips for what it is.

If I were gonna build a motor on a decent budget I would go with Drag Cartel cams I think they are running a special now on cams and valvetrain for less than $1000. Not to mention they hold the World Record for the fastest/quickest NA k series :)

Also my friend just made 250whp and 185 on a stock k24a1 bottom end I sold him and off the shelf parts.

I would recommend people to get a working and driving swap going THEN decide if you wanna build a motor.

Something else to keep in mind is you go spend about $700 on a used nitrous kit and you have 300WHP all day long on any k-series with real I-vtec

i already have the swap.
i just need to get the k24 bottom end.
so i should stick with the rbc intake, drag cartel cams or the s2s3 witch ever is cheaper..
im not waiting 6 months for parts.
and i can get a good deal on eagle rods and cp piston so im gonna go with those.
i'm also going to do a 3 angle valve job with skunk 2 valve springs and retainers.

If you want the motor to last, I wouldn't do CP pistons. I only got 20k miles on mine. I also had a boatload of tensioner and other problems with the skunk2 cams.

No point in doing a 3 angle valve job on a stock k20a2 head since it comes with that stock.

ok so i look into a better safer setup.
and isn't the whole purpose of a valve job to restore compression and oil control?

A valve job can be restorative or for performance reasons. How old is the head you have? If the head isn't that old, you probably don't need to have the seats re-cut with a 3 angle job unless you're also replacing guides. The only other reason would be to get a 5 angle job paired up with a port job to improve performance.

Valve jobs have nothing to do with oil control, they affect sealing of the valve and they help to direct air coming through the port, most important at low lift.

I personally went with IPS cams after spending enough to buy two or three sets rebuilding my motor after repeated timing chain tensioner failures with skunk2's cams. With IPS I have power and reliablity. They cost money, but I gladly spent the money because no one else can match them right now for power & reliability. To be fair, it's not just skunk2 cams that cause tensioner issues. Skunk2, Brian Crower, Buddy Club, Toda, pretty much all but select few k-series cam brands have a high probability of causing tensioner issues.

If you are thinking about forced induction just get a stock type s motor and boost it. You can make 400-450 no prob and that is plenty for raping most anything on the street.

Or...... Get a type s and throw a 100-150 shot of nitrous on it :)
