Decided i needed something to keep my hands off my current civic.

So i picked this wagon up from a gentleman in peachtree city last week. I found it sitting under a tree where it had been for the past few years. A thorough cleaning revealed some shiny paint and clean carpet!

I've been running through the electrical system so far, and i haven't found anything that doesn't work yet... quite a relief. The engine has 233k miles and cranks up first time, every time... seems to run better than my EJ8 to be honest. :(

Despite what the pictures depict the car is now lowered and in desperate need of a windshield, which fell victim to a falling tree branch during the tornados a few weeks back. *dang*

Picture time! please excuse my messy garage... it was victim of a tornado too.

Any type of advice or suggestions is wholly welcome here... I'm learning very quickly that these 2nd gens are whole different ballgame when it comes to the "typical honda" that i am used to - although some of the similarities are quite entertaining. Already i have said to myself a few times "hmm, they just dont change anything, do they?" lol

Well, these are starting to become IA exclusives. Congrats QD, in a few months the CVCC will no longer be special cause everyone will have one.

J/K they are seriously cool, and they're not being made anymore so it isn't like it's less rare, just less rare in ATl.

They are actually rare everywhere. Too bad your judgment is so overclouded by the Hondas of today that you have a dislike for even the classics. Later, QD.

I like the 2nd gens. Not quite as much as 1st. gens, but a whole lot more than EF's or EG's. My 1st gen was a whole hell of a lot more fun than my DA Integra ever was.

Any plans for mod's? There are a few larger motors that are a drop-in swap. And some that will fit with minor mods. Theres an easy upgrade to the front brakes,

This engine runs so well i dont plan on touching it at all man.

A brake upgrade? :D details please

For now i just plan on cleaning it up, and trying to figure out if i can get rid of this solid rear axle and install rear independant stuff from a sedan or hatchback.

You can install calipers/rotors from any 4x100 Honda. Just be sure the calipers and rotors are for the same application (EG calipers/EG rotors). Not quite sure about the rear, but there have been plenty of disc swaps on the forums. Really the stock drums in the rear are more than enough.

as far as the rear suspension... putting in IRS would probably require lots of cutting/welding as you'd have to swap some strut towers into the rear. The beam type suspension isn't that bad... VW has used it on all their water-cooled cars.

outstanding man. Thanks for the info!

the reason im wanting to drop the rear axle is because it seems to have shifted to one side or another... Either that or the chassis is slightly tweaked. (which wouldn't surprise me) The wheels i have for it fit beautifully on all sides except for the back driver side - it hangs out about .5" further than the others.

I'll check on the HondaWagon site Maynard mentioned tonight to see if there is more info about this happening.

I appreciate all the props guys :goodjob: reps to all

You may need to ckeck and see if you have a panhard bar (It's a solid beam, so it probably does) The panhard bar controls the "side to side" of the rear suspension. When you lower a car with a panhard bar, usally the lower you go the more the axle will move towards one side of the car. By adjusting or slotting the holes, etc the axle will go back to where it belongs. It should be a simple adjustment.

i wish there was a panhard bar. I had noticed the wheel problem before i lowered it, it just wasn't as pronounced because there was 5" of wheel gap. Now that the tires are slightly tucking, its definitely an issue. :)

I've considered manually taking down the offset on one of the wheels... not really a bright thing to do and it may have bad results. But i do have a 5th wheel... so if worse comes to worse... lol

Oh, if its to fix damage then I can see re-engineering it. But the beam axle is not bad as far as handling goes... the VW's that have a similar setup can be made pretty stiff... they'll get on 3 wheels when you corner hard.

Its a 2nd gen so an EK should fit in place of the EJ or EM.

And the ES/ET motors are a possibility as well... if I understand it right you can use them with the earlier transmissions if you re-drill the early flywheel for larger bolts. You may have to change the exhaust pipes or shorten a torque rod, but nothing major.

Granted, thats not much of a boost compared to a B series or whatever, but when it comes to the EK it will fit in there and every last bit of vacuum tubing for the smog junk will connect to it like it was meant to go there.

as far as swaps is concerned...

i've found info on everything from a B series to a Hayabusa engine...

everything seems to be a custom install though. I figure I'll cross that bridge when i get there.

EK will fit in this car without mods. Anything else will not. I know only because my 79 had an 83 engine in it and when it blew, we put the EK in it. SO I do know that, without fabrication, nothing else will bolt in. Later, QD.

EN's were Canada only. Same block as the EJ but with a non-CVCC head. His car will have either an EJ (1335cc) or EM (1488cc). Those are both CVCC engines with the pre-combustion chambers and 3v carbs. I'm not sure if they put the EJ in the wagons or not so its most likely an EM.

I meant EM. Not an EJ as it would most likely run the 1.5 over the 1.3. That's how the 1st gen Civics were as well. The bigger engine to pull the bigger car. Later, QD.
