Indian/Middle Eastern food

Looking for some good places. I loves me some curry.

"Taste of India" here in Athens is good, they have a $8 all-you-can-eat buffet during lunch time with vegeterian and meat stuff. Its usually crowded at lunch. Dinner is better quality food (not buffet), but a little more expensive so the place is usually pretty empty.

I really like "Meskerem" in Decatur. Its Ethiopean food. Lots of meat stews basically. No silverware, you eat with bread and your hands. Stuff for the vegeterians too.

I went to a place called "Haveli" in Marietta once... the food was alright but the place was kinda run down... the building used to be an Applebee's.

Anybody else have any suggestions?

There's one in Chamblee Plaza i think its calld Himalya or something like that. Been once but it was really good. first time for indian food but i would definitly go back

Moghuls on Jimmy Carter. Awesome place. Very home style. Large eating area but looks small.

the moghuls is a little bland i'd say for proper home style food.
but just up the road from there is sabri kabob in the gas station thats better.

the best place used to be off indian trail, 6.99 lunch buffet's as well but the owner changed and it went to hell.

Which one of these places are newb-friendly? I love the indian food my neighbor's family cooks but don't know jack shit about what I want to get or where to get it from.

Little India as I like to call it, is down near North Dekalb Mall by 285. Has a few Indian food stores as well as a couple of restaurants if I remember correctly. N.Druid Hills/Briarcliff Rd. near the ChikFilA has an Indian grocery store and a restaurant there as well.

Indian cooking isn't hard to learn, just takes time to cook most things. I usually cook Tandoori Chicken weekly b/c A)chicken is lean and B) it tastes awesome, not as good as my mother's indian cooking though.

I ate there Friday and they had a new one I haven't seen before... it was a "chef's special" curry, and the chicken had lots of bones in it. I didn't like it as much. They also had a Mango Chicken that I hadn't seen before and it was really good. Mango lassi's are awesome too :goodjob:

Go to Moghuls off Jimmy Carter. PM and let me know when you want to go. I take all my white friends there to eat and they love it. They go back on there own after they get broke in. lmk..

Zyka (Decatur)- Good, a little expensive, greasy, food is not too newb friendly
Bhojanic (Decatur)- Fusion, Good, a lot of food for the price... [The Thali-combos of 1-2 meat(s) 1-2 veggie(s)] very newb friendly
Lal Quila (off Britt Road on Jimmy) - Pretty freaking good depending on when the food is made. I've had horrible food and good food from them but they have a wide naan selection. Eh I wouldn't risk it as a newb.
Mirch Masala (Decatur) - Its not the best but is up there, It is expensive
Madras Sarvana Bhavan (Decatur) - Vegetarian, very newb friendly taste wise, knowing what to order not so much.

That's all i can think of so far, I'll add more later as far as Moghuls, I haven't had it in years but I remember it being good.

Isn't there a non-veg place around the corner from there called Madras Chettinad? I had the buffet at Madras once and it was pretty good, but like all buffets it didn't have any spice to it.

I might try Bhojanic, I read on Yelp that they have a good jazz band, and its cool that they do combo plates.

I guess I'm used to the American concept of "meat and two" meaning you have the main course and two sides. But the way Indian places serve you with seperate plates makes it easy to share, so when I go out with people we always do it that way so everyone gets to have more than one dish.

I loved it at first, i agree on the grease and price.

Price increased over $1.00 for the Chicken Chilli and Naan entree.

I rarely go now.

I can't remember the name of it, but there is an Indian spot at Little 5 Points that is really good. I have tried about 6-7 different places and they were the best to me.

Yeah, I hate it when Zyka is closed, it's by far the best Indian I've had in Atlanta, but I don't get that many chances before my girl gets burnt out on any one ethnicity.
