Brand new in the gun scene. I may be getting either a HS2000 or a PT111.

I was wondering if anyone had any input in either one. Pros and cons. Anything at all.

I'm doing some research online ATM but i'd like to know some opinions from IA.

Thanks

I personally have no experience with either so I don't really want to say. I hear good and bad things about Taurus but no experience for me. What are you wanting to do with the gun?

Ed

Hmm, I'll let someone else chime in on this since I don't know exactly.
However, I do know the XD's pretty well. (shooting wise) I love them. Accurate, feel great in my hand and easy to disassemble. Great gun to begin with man. I can't say enough about them.

never heard of the HS 2000. Not a fan of the Taurus.

FOr a range gun, XD 9mm or GLock 9mm

The XD and HS2000 (both made by HS Produkt) are the same gun.

Sooo.... if the question is XD or Taurus? Its a no brainer: XD.

Ed
03-25-2009, 11:51 AM
ok. heres the next one, the XD he bought used and doesnt know how many rounds has been shot, and the pt111 has only had around 250 300 shots...

the xd still a better choice, even being shot more times than the pt?

Danny
03-25-2009, 11:59 AM
personally i wouldnt care if the XD had 5000 rounds through it (which isnt that much, but most people shoot 500-1000 rounds a year MAX) I would still choose the XD over the tarurs. Wayy too many people have bad luck with those guns from what i can tell, not to mention the trigger is pure torture on most of them according to most (Tarurus). Some of the tarurs are good, but they are soooo unpredictable in terms of quality that a steer clear of them. They are known for the same problems in their 1911s, some are good guns for the money, but lots are pieces of crap.

Springfield has the best customer service in the industry, so thats a plus.

Google a function and safety check list for the XD, that way u can check all the features on the gun before u buy.

Gotta remember those guns should last 30,000-45,000 rounds before needing an overhaul. so chances are you have plenty of life left in the XD. Just visually inspect it very well.

thanks danny. good info i will do that. any other useful sites you can think of for beginners?

PS. We dont have HS2000s in the states. So if you salesman is convinced its a HS2000, it may be a completely different gun than the XD.

Becuase I dont know what a Remington HS2000 is.

That wasnt really the point i was making. All i was getting at is that i have made recommendation is based on the assumption that the HS2000 is the same as the XD (which it is, but its made by HS Produkt in Croatia). If its the Remington HS2000 as the seller claims i am not familiar with it and there for cannot recomened it. Thats all, i wasnt attacking your friend or his knowledge. I just wanted to make sure that you understand I am talking about an XD when your buddy may be selling a completely different gun.

Ed

no, i wasnt defending him. i was just stating it. i will ask him if it's a XD.

thanks!

I have both. My pt111 is pretty good but it has a heavy trigger. I also have a XD .45 service pistol. Its all about what u plan to use it for really. The Xd would be a good range gun and is accurate. If you want concealed carry the pt111 is good. My Xd is my favorite pistol. I will probably be getting a Xd compact in the future to replace the pt111. Just shoot the both if possible and choose the one that feels better to you.

Ed

yeah we will be going to the range to shoot it...

thanks for the tip

Just because I am biased I say dont buy either one and save up for a 1911. If tupperware is your thing than go ahead, haha.

On a serious note. You cannot go wrong with an xd. you can hop onto gunbroker and pick up a "gear pack" for it for a really good price. most of them come with two or three mags, holster, and mag carrier for really cheap. Anywho.. make sure you post up some gun porn when you decide.

i have heard the xd was great. i looked at one and i really liked the feel. i liked it more than the glock that i bought, but i didnt get to rent an XD and try it out. i have heard nothing but good things abt them. the taurus i have heard good and bad, nothing too major, customer service on warranty work may suck what a guy who owned a shop/range said. how much are they asking for the XD?

Danny

should be able to grab a like new used XD for 400-450 at adventure outdoors. they normally have a good selection of used ones.

nice weapon bball. Whats your experience been like with the tac light. Everytime I see one in the store I am worried about the construction, seems very fragile? How many lumens and whats the run time, also how deep is it submersible to? Sorry for all the questions :D

he has to move out of the country, for the army, so he's letting it go for cheap.

xd 200

pt 300.

pt is newer.

i am almost positive im getting the xd since most of you guys like it better. but i am still gonna shoot both before i make a decision. if anyone is interest in the pt, ill talk to him, he desperately needs it sold since hes leaving the country soon.

XD = stolen? (CHEAP) or its tore up from the floor up. Dude if its in good shape and u trust the dude. BUY IT

Which XD did he say it is exactly?

Ed
03-26-2009, 09:16 AM
haha. he's in the army. so i would hope he didnt steal it.

check the serial right? haha

im gonna talk to him either this weekend or next weekend and ill post up pics.

he just told me remington hs2000. you guys are saying that those are the xd in the US.

only other info he told me is he bought it used from a dealer, so he doesnt know how many shots have been fired.

When I first picked it up it gave me the feeling of a generic "fashion" add on light you'd find at store like Dicks Sporting but after throwing it on and firing it up I was pretty impressed. Xenon bulb so it's around 40-50lumens depending on batt life. Poly-carbon shell similar to the Draganov dressings on my sks. It's a pretty stout piece for the size. I've switched out the batt maybe twice in the year and a half of owning it, but am reluctant to say I haven't gone Rambo and gone underwater with it, yet however I will say there's not another tac light I'd buy for it. Fits the 1911 and Walther p99 compact too! I'd recommend it :goodjob:

I've never heard of a Remington HS2000.

I've read about the Croatian XD clone one, which is probably what this is. For that price, get it.

BTW, I've had several Taurus models, although never the 1911 clone ones, and have never even had a single issue. I personally like them and for the money they are hard to beat. :2cents:

i went and got to shoot both of them, and as you guys said, the PT111 has a funny trigger, i didn't like it, but the HS2000 or the american XD (it said made in croatia and it said HS2000) was much better. i loved it.

im going over to get it tonight with him.

the pt111 is still for sale if anyone is interested. $300

here is a pic of it (sorry its a shitty cell phone pic, i will get more tonight when i go over there):

Thanks Gene.

It was my first time shooting a gun and I did fairly well.

I'm excited to go again.

I was kind of nervous at first but once I got a few rounds in, it wasn't too bad.

I just took a friend of mine for the first time and he was pretty nervous at first too. You will get a lot more comfortable with it over time and that's all it takes. Time. When I come back I'll pm you and we'll get a range trip scheduled.
