I'm looking to get a board, bindings, and boots soon but being in GA, the places to go purchase these items are limited. I went to Sun Ski Sport at Discover Mills on Sunday and the selection was limited. There are 2 or 3 other places that I found in the area that I want to check out. I figure at this time, everything is on sale. Another question, would the prices be any better in TN (Nashville/Knoxville)? I've found a couple of places up there that have a pretty good selection.

Used to back in Colorado! Once I got back to the heat all the old memories went to dreams! Planning on going back to steamboat or breckenridge by this winter.
Try http://www.the-house.com/. If you really need to get it from a store, Peter Glenn (http://www.peterglenn.com/pglenn/default.asp?ad_id=PPC-Google&key_id=peter+glen&utm_source=peter+glen&utm_medium=PPC-Search&utm_term=peter+glen&utm_campaign=PPC-Google) has a few locations in Georgia. Their stuff is usually a year behind but the prices are way better than Sun and Ski. Which sucks by the way.
I use to snowboard before my left knee couldn't handle the pressure of it.

Yeah, I looked them up and I'll be checking them out this weekend. There's also a couple of places off of Roswell Rd that I will be checking out. Thanks for the heads up about Sun and Ski, I found out the hard way.
Another question...what about brands? What brand should I look into and which ones should I stay away from?

These are two of the best price places that i've seen. Almost everyone in Team Xlr8shen snowboards, and we hit up NC or Tenn every chance we get. I got all my gear from cloths, bindings, boots, helmet, and bags from these websites. I do most of my shopping on sierra however due to them always having sales and price matching. If your looking for a local place Ambush in Kennesaw is the shit! There's also some other board places around there too but not as well stocked. Pm me if you need any info or advice. Im not the best boarder but i;ve done my research..
Ride, Forum, and Burton make pretty damn good boards. There are tons of other brands out there too that you can choose from. Most people go with Burton but some of their lower price boards are not as good as other boards at the same price. However, their nicer shit is bomb!

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. I've been up to NC in January but plan on heading west to Colorado next year sometime. Not saying I won't be hitting NC again, but I want to really experience it.

I've tried it before, as long as I don't actually need to slow down or stop I'm alright.
Oh and I don't have a clue where to get stuff.

That's like someone from Germany coming over here and telling you not to buy a high horsepower car, due to the speed limit being 70 mph. Or you not liking big tits cause they're fake. It's about 30-40 bucks to get snowboard and boots every time you go snowboarding and they suck! You can piece together a good beginners package for around $300, specially since it's the off season now.

stay away from lamar, 5150 and vision (if you can even find that any more).

Truth.
Also, you may want to keep an eye on http://sac.gearattack.com/. Some of their deals cannot be beat anywhere.
If you plan on riding in the southeast, you should know about the normally icy and very unforgiving conditions. I've found LibTech works awesome on ice. The "serrated" sidewalls on the Magnetraction and Banana Hammock are amazing.

If your new to snowboarding i would go with a Burton clash snowboard with Burton Freestyle bindings. Its a cheap snowboard with great quailty. It can be used for freestyle, slopestyle, or natural terrain.

I plan on snowboarding both. I will probably hit the TN or NC for quick weekend trips. Like I said, I also plan on heading out west with some friends also. Lots of good info here guys, Thanks.
I've been looking on the websites you guys showed me and there are alot of awesome deals out there on everything, esp on the sierra site. I'm just trying to get a good idea of size wise, which board would be best for me. I PM'd Tuan and he said he's riding a 156cm board and he's about 4 inches taller than me. I'm guessing a 151cm board would be ok for me since i'm about 5'6, 165lbs.

yeah I just got back from a trip out to mammoth mtn. in cali. all of the '08 models should be marked down a lot this time of year. check out sun and ski sports at discovery mills. they have a good selection of last years stuff that you can get a killer deal on. I bought a pair of '08 K2 boots a few months ago from there and they were only $125 marked down from $275.
It cost 35-45 bucks to rent a snowboard and boots everytime you go boarding. You can get a decent snowboard, bindings, and boots for around 300-350 right now since its off season. Snowboard 6-7 times anf it will be worth it. The HEAD boards that they let you rent are horrible, the boots are heavy and hurt. If the kid wants to snowboard then why not invest in a board?

yea rentals do suck ass although i havent rented a board since '01 and they were horrible compared to today but they still suck.
He plans on traveling to board which is the best to do, trying new mountains are always fun!..
Yea peter glenn has killer package deals. One of the guys almost talked me into getting the new Burton Custom and burton lexa bindings bc it was so cheap.

i disagree, Mt. Tremblant, Canada is definitely one of my top choices to ride. Snowshoe WV isn't bad either, i have a timeshare there in the village - doesn't seem like a waste of money to me!
I also take the time to fly out to The Canyons and Park City in Utah once a season - while excellent spots on the west coast are a dime a dozen... there are a few places on the East Coast that are killer as well.
...you just have to drive/fly a ways, can't be a wimp - drive four hours, and expect great snow. That just doesn't happen... WV is the lowest i go on the East Coast to board... I plan on exploring Vermont next year.

Other than vermont, the east coast for snowboarding sucks. The only decent Snowpark in WV is winterplace....
I highly suggest going to Vermont. Stay after from the slush in north carolina.

Kid? Who you calling kid? Hahaha, just kidding. Yeah, I plan on checking out Peter Glenn this weekend. If anything, get measured to make sure I get the right size everything. Any input on this guys height/weight to board cm ratio, shoe size comparable to what a boot size should be, and binding size?

the guys at peter glenn know what they are doing and saying. They will fit you with the right board that fits you.
Theres a Peter Glenn near Ambush i believe. Last time i went up there, they really didn't have that much of a selection. However, they have tons of gloves and beanies!
Plus, Sierra has free shipping and no TAX!

Know that if you do buy a board and plan on traveling with it airlines will only insure the hard snowboard cases now. They will let you bring your board in a soft bag but if something happens to it they won't insure it. Don't fly delta when you travel, they charge a $150 fee to put your board on the plane, what a joke!

east coast boarding does NOT suck, it's just a little different. No, you don't have insane amounts of snow that you can get lost in... But if you're okay with not having miles and miles of halfpipes and flattops, then you're good to go.
Everyone hates on the east coast for some reason... i've noticed it's usually it's folks who've gone out to Rockies once or twice and are caught up in the buzz. lol
winterplace? lol
Mr.EM1, why didn't you and Dustin ride out with me this winter to WV/or out west? I had room in the plane bro.

Winterplace is a ski resort in WV...
But other than vermont, east coast sucks for anyone who is above an intermediate skill level.
The east coast is great for beginners though.

Youre better off buying boots if you need to get just one thing, then rent a setup from a shop near the resort and see what you like. Look for deals based on that.
How much is it usually to snowboard out west? Like plane trip, lift, and lodging..

Just ordered my board and binding today. Went with the Burton Blunt and the Burton Mission bindings. Called Sierra snow up, the staff was so freaking helpful, and went ahead and ordered online. The price was too good to pass up. Now I just need to get some boots. I want to try them on in person before I actually get any.

Went back to Sun Ski sports to try on some boots. Tried on a pair of the Burton Hail boots and they were freakin awesome. They had them for $219 with 25% off. Went home, logged onto Sierra snow and got them for $109 shipped. For for the board, boots, and bindings I paid $374 shipped. Now that's an awesome deal in my opinion.
