Hey peeps, getting really close to complete on my build and thought Id share some details here. Its an '89 TII, redtop SR swap, mid FMIC, some other small mods. Should be a fun lil whip when (if?) I ever get it done, work is slow right now but its coming together.

And why not do it? Its not like the 13B is powerhouse, or fun to work on, or trouble free, or great on gas, or really anything special. Of course thats my opinion, I know some people would disagree whole-heartedly.

I admit, I'm kinda disappointed that you're ditching the rotary.

As long as you do the SR RIGHT and don't turn that clean FC into an S13 in an FC shell, it'll be aiight.

I plan on going 2JZ when I re-enlist in <2 years, so I can't hate on you TOO much for going piston.

Really? Cross-platform swap piss you off? To me its the best way to build exactly the type of car you want, whatever that may be. Shoot, a buddy of mine's pops was banned from open wheel sprint racing in Wisconsin because he built a rotary-powered car in the late 70's and raped everyone. I wouldnt hate on him, thats just ingenuity.

It's funny how many people hate on SRs. I wonder how many of them have actually owned an SR-powered car.

I put about 40,000mi on an SR, and only sold the car because the chassis was becoming too ragged out. The SR performed perfectly. I not only raced it (drag, autoX, mtn runs), but daily drove it, and made a bunch of road trips (I think I drove it to Orlando like 5-6 times).

Mad props for swapping in a reliable powerplant with great aftermarket support, that will actually maintain the dynamics of the vehicle.

I would. The rotary is already a great powerhouse, its pointless for a brand swap. Don't get me wrong the SR,LS,2J's are great motors but imo its a lazy move. Then the funny thing is they still call them rx7's.

green91

Nevermind that a bone stock SR block can handle 350-400whp EASY with a simple MAF, turbo, injector & ecu flash. And do it reliably.

I got my tach signal figured out, had to run it off the 180* signal from the CAS since Nissan decided to try and be special with the SR rpm setup. Once that was done I realized I didnt have any more wiring to do on the inside so I installed the ECU and kick panel and layed the carpet back down. It looks weird, hadnt seen floor on that side of the car for a few months :)

Also got the MAFS and O2 wires extended, loomed and tied away. Overall not a bad day at all, I got to rev above 2500 and test the BOV too.

LOL at all the butt hurt rotary owners. Fact is you can make 300-400whp reliable on a sr20 without cracking the block. Plus the aftermarket support is awesome, and the engines are cheap and aren't as temperamental as the rotary.

eraser4g63
05-08-2009, 09:22 PM
^^ My car is not temperamental ( it just hates my wife). I can make 300-400 hp reliable on my rotary all day long, and have you ever done any research on the aftermarket for a rotary. I could be at 500+ with a simple turbo upgrade and new injectors, I choose not to because I am happy with my 250 on a stock turbo.

How do you crack a turbo rotary block? I mean shit, you gotta boost to 30psi with stock ports and hold it at 9k for about 2 minutes then your exhaust will melt. but cracking a properly ported block is an achievement. Plus i don't have to worry about fucking up a piston, sleeve, ring, head, bearing, rod, cam... etc.

You got your shit twisted, time to hit the books and get the real info on rotaries. Can you rebuild your piston engine for less than a grand without MAJOR mechanical work?

Once again another ignorant fuck steps up to the plate. A well taken care of rotary can last longer than 60k. Rotaries are the same as any other motor just with less stuff to break when it goes. With that being said the fd motor is another story.

Wow, this is one of the most interesting threads ever!

That sucks this TII burnt. I'm at least glad it wasn't ANOTHER FD though (too many of them get lost to fire).

Dude you are totally right, I never should have done this swap in the first place I should have kept the rotary power in there and none of this would have happened. Im going to rebuild my old motor and do it right this time, let me know where I can get a rebuild kit for $700 I need a really good deal on one right now. Also I could totally use your help with the rebuild, you seem to know a lot about rotaries and I want to learn real bad.

Why do I sense sarcasm??? lol

I'll be honest man I personally did not care for the swap, but it was unique. I am sure it has been done before and I am sure it has some benefits for this specific applications. Then again the Rotary has benefits over the Sr20. SO I guess what I am trying to say is that it sucks that it caught fire and I will be curious to see what you do next. Oh and give me you damn wheels.lol
