This was my first time using my Canon 70-200 F/4 L and my first tome attempting to pan. I panned for like 2 or 3 shots but most are just fast shutter speed cause my panning shots were getting blurry. I've never shot with a telephoto before so I hope I did well. The event was a lot fo fun. Thanks for looking.

I guess everyone got sick of this event coverage huh? Any comments from the photogs on how to improve?

shots look decent, id say bump ya F-stop down (or up cant remember) from 9 to 12 or so you could shoot at a slower shutter speed from 1/250 to say 1/80-125 or so thus creating more of the panning effect with your shots ..

I have a question, should I have brought my tripod and panned on that, or keep practicing hand held, or should I buy a mono-pod. This is a non-IS lens because I did slow the shutter down a bit for a few shots handheld but I couldn't get the car to look sharp.

Khris is right... higher F-stop... panning just takes practice. steadily follow the car. I've never tried a monopod for panning, so I really can't say.

No monopod, no tripod, drop the shutter speed down. Just practice your panning. run 1/30 to 1/125

Ask Changaroo or Nemesis, they have been on the site for a while and are probably the two best photogers on this site but this guy above is coming along strong with his pics too along with chadbee.

nice stills! i wish it wasn't so cloudy when i was there. weather seemed much nicer in everyone else's pics. yeah just bump the f-stop down a tad. i am no pro, but i am glad to offer some pointers that i have learned through trial and error.

They came out pretty good. I'm debating posting mine just for the sake of being redundant. :D I did get shots of the cars parked which I haven't seen a lot of.

Thanks guys. I guess I am still too accustomed to the 1/focal length rule. I guess even at 200mm 1/60th looks less blurry when you're moving along with a car? I didn't convey a lot of motion, but got a few good stills showing smoke, I look forward to the next event like this, I really need to practice my panning. REPS to all those who are offering photography tips.

Yeah, bad angle, I didn't realize till now, thanks for pointing it out. Photography is one of those things where you want people to find what you did wrong and be harsh about.
