Just got back from Commerce. It was my first time ever to step foot on a track. I brought my sentra which is na, to see what it would do. I knew I was not gonna do good, as it was my first time, so I joked about running a 16, which was actually better then my first run lol. I ran on 185/60/14’s touring tires that held no power and actually about broke my car though I’ll get into that latter. I only got to run two times, so I didnt have the seat time to get a hang of everything

First run, I sat in line and asked people nearby how the tree worked which was help full lol. Running those turd tires, I knew launching from 3k was too much, so I pulled up and launched from 2500 which was too much. It spun instantly and wheel hopped so bad, it popped 1st gear back out to neutral. I put it back in first and took off again, and it wheel hopped like crazy again, so I pushed in the clutch and tried once more with the same results so I threw it in 2nd and went down the track. That was the 17.07 @ 98.9mph. The wheel hop was so bad it bent the shift linkage, and I could no longer go in reverse or 5th, and now 1st was where 3rd used to be lol.

Second run, I decided RT did not matter, and I was going to launched from 1800rpm which is not a launch lol, as well as let the clutch slip then ease on the gas while easing off the clutch. That worked better than I thought. It started to spin and wheel hop a little, but nothing like the first time. I smacked the revlimiter before I knew it, threw it in 2nd spun and wheel hopped a little, and smacked and sat at the rev limiter again before shifting to 3rd for the rest of the run. That one was much better with a 14.09 @ 101.2mph.

Im sure if I got 10 or so runs it would have been better by not bouncing off the revlimiter and perfecting the launch, but I pretty sure I would of broke something with the spinning and wheel hop of those little donuts of mine. Either way it was fun, I never witnessed the track before, so it defiantly was a great experience. Now I got some 205/55/14 drag radials on order, so I’ll have them for next weekend which should not give me nowhere near the traction problems I had tonight. But before then, I got to fix what the wheel hop broke lol. I also have a lot of learning to do. Tonight I was out and had no clue what was going on or what or the procedures were lol.

PS: It’s a 92 Sentra with sr20ve with 195-200whp @ 2170-2200lbs.

Thanks, Im gonna go to steele dragstrip next weekend. Its no where near as packed as commerce from what I hear, so I'll have more seat time to do better.

Thanks, though Im to much of a amature with the dragstip to understand trap speed significance, I'll learn. Im sure I could of got 102 if I wasent sitting on the revlimmiter. Though next weekend with more traction, seat time and not bouncing off the limmiter I think I'll pull 102-103mph.

They do it on sat and sun only, but you run from noon to like midnight, and its no where near as crowded, so you get a crap ton of runs. I'll pm you wednesday or thursday, see how the weather is and to see if you can make it.

NICE! I asked about the scales when I was asking about how the tree worked to these guys waiting next to me. They told me how the tree worked, but said they did not know where to weigh your car at commerce so I figured commerce didnt do it. My official weight 1.5years ago was 2380, though while I added up the weight I took out since, I realy wanted an official wieght now rather then the 2170-2200 I go with.

well after you run you go to the booth where the dude gives you the timeslip right, well as soon as you go through that booth area its on the right hand side like 20ft ahead, its a scale right there, not much ppl see it as there is no sign of scale anywhere, i went to commerce for over a year and then found out...lol

I did'nt spot that one, though I have a scrap yard within 5miles of my house thats goes in 5lb increments so once I fix the shift linkage and since its spring break for me now, I'll weigh it in tomorrow.

I weighed it 1.5yrs ago at 2380lbs full interior and 1/8th tank of gas. Since then I took out the interior, took the sound deadening out as well as the fire wall mat, then put the interior back in. Then took out the AC system, and misilanious brackets and usless parts, while keeping it bone stock looking. So by weighing everything I took out dropped it down to 2270. Then for tonight, I took out the pass seat and back seat and rear bumper which put it down to 2180-2190.

We need to race again when I have traction :) Same track, my first pass, my first time:

For what it's worth, most people can pull off a 1.9-2.0 60 ft. on street tires in this car, I need to practice my launch bad....

You may want to lower your car with stiffer lowering springs,to help with the wheel hop :D It would also help keep the weight on the front wheels ,when your launching the car

Anytime sir. I old jdm tranny ran 109 in third at 8500, the short ratio usdm one I got now apperently runs 101 as I was finishing the strip bouncing off the revlimiter. Next weekend, Im gonna try again with some taller tires, but as far as running again in warmer weather, its whenever you have the time, just let me know. ;)

Yeah I need to get some coilovers for it but got laid off, and am being supported by my sugar mama. So me getting coilovers is dependent on if the sugar mama thinking I deserve them lol.

Definitely. I should be getting some coilovers for the sentra in 2 weeks rather than the stock blown suspension I run, and though it won’t look as stock looking :( it will help me with the wheel hop problem Im having as well as aerodynamics from a roll. Also it will weigh a hair over 100lbs less than the last time we ran without going all out stripped, plus a few extra ponies. The runs should be close though.

Just finished taking look at the sentra. Found out why it wouldnt go in 5th/rev. The shift linkage was smacking the sway bar shifting anything to the right of third and first was where third was. It turns out the wheel hop ripped the shift linkage mount right under the shifter. I'll order the mount Monday and be back on the road by the end of the week.
