wheel polishing problem???

so i polished one of my fat 5's by hand every step of the way took about 7 hours using 150,220,320,400,600,800,1000,1500,2000 and finishes with mothers mag aluminum polish. and it doesnt look shiit like its suppose to.
.. HELP PLS!!!

you can use turtle wax scratch and swerl remover and a fine steel wool. make sure it is the fine one though. i want to say it will be like grade 0000. and the go over it again with your polish a time or two. this may help.

Agree, your lower stages are very import it looks like you didnt do them enough or maybe 150 was to rough, did you wet sand, i wet sanded 800 to 1500 then mothers polish

yeah i wet sanded 600 and up and i spent 3 to 4 hours with the 220 and 320 alone

anyways, did you hand sand 220 until it was evenly hazy and smooth? if it wasnt evenly hazy everywhere... then it will not be shiny.

if you have time and enough materials, i recommend that you machine sand ( orbital or DA ) until it is very very smooth and hazy... it should be nowhere near rough. then from there you wetsand 400-600-800-1000-15-2 and buff either by hand or machine until spickingly shiny.

those were the same exact instructions i told southside and it worked perfectly when he did it that way, examples

just take your time, then again dont take your swweet a$$ time.. lol 7 hours is a LONG time to spend polishing 1 wheel.


i average about 1 hour a wheel, so you should be around that time :goodjob: any questions pm me

Dont no about better but this is what i did...By hand


I started with 220 up to 1500 (i didn do 2000 but i might some time)

I wet sanded 800 up, i mean hose in one hand sand paper in other, not a
little bowl of water.

Keep them clean as possible between coats this will help you view spots you over look

I went in little circles then long strokes

I polish them with a rag the first time because it was v night and i had lil time 2 get ready and they still look great

dont mind the whoreage :taun:Yea I gave him the same instructions from Honda-tech.That you gave me I dont know how his didnt turn out that fye.....But alot of people tend to like to rush it and it usually takes some time before you get the Bling Bling factor:camera:

Fat 5's are machined polished correct? Meaning they have the fine ridges, like microscopic ruffles, where it was cut...if you don't smooth down those ridges 100% then it won't ever have a mirror like reflection.

High speed is the key too. You can get a polishing kit for a cheap electric drill too, won't work nearly as well as a pneumatic high speed polisher but far more effective than by hand.
