Sorry my friend but you need to brush up on history a battle was fought on US territory and soil. Pearl Harbor was a battle. When mini subs, kamazazi and torpedo planes came into our air space and attacked our ships and buildings, that was a fight on our soil/air space!

An attack would have to come from the seas because they would need the element of suprise. All Navy and Marine bases are right on the sea. At the very least those would need to be neutralized very quickly. A drawn out campaign through S. America or Canada would give the US notice of what was happening. It couldnt be portrayed as an attack on Canada/Mexico only as they are as staunch of an ally as England is. At the same time, even if Canada/Mexico was involved the time it took to trek across Canada/Mexico with that large of a force could only be 1 thing and we would be prepared to fight.

A good portion will be fought with long range air to air and air to mud missles, but not all. It still requires ground troops to win a war. Also, missle defense is getting MUCH better. If you want a realistic idea of what it would be like read Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. Its a work of fiction, but it is an accurate portrayal of what I see for WWIII.

When it comes down to nuts and bolts of combat it still comes down to Navy and Army. The Navy MUST secure the waterways for the Army to hit foreign shores. With the evolution of precision bomb and missles Air power is infanatily important, but a war can be won without air superiority.

Lets not count out the US Coast Guard, ppl. They are usually under the radar, per say, and never talked about as being a necessary force in our military. However, there are PLENTY of them and they are trained for war just like the other branches, despite the fact that they are primarily stopping illegals and drugs at the moment.

An attack against the US on US soil is improbable. We have too many bases worldwide from where we can defend ourselves and/or see it coming. Our military intel is among the best and most highly trained there is. Like any intel, it has its flaws.
