Crane Cams closed its doors after 56 years in business and laid off employees, this according to a report on News-JournalOnline.com, the website for the Daytona Beach, Fla., newspaper.

According to the report, county and state officials were working with Crane Cams and its New Jersey-based parent company, Mikronite Technologies, to keep the company in business.

“We were trying to help them through this transition,” Rick Michael, Volusia County economic development director told News-JournalOnline. “They were considering a transfer of ownership. We were not expecting any closure.”

Crane Cams and Crane Technologies Group were founded by Harvey J. Crane Jr. in 1953 as Crane Engineering Inc. in Hallandale, Fla.

In 1979, Crane Cams became an employee-owned company. Some operations moved to Daytona Beach in 1981, with the remainder of the operation and employees relocating here in 1985.

Mikronite, an industrial technology firm, bought Crane in 2006.

one of the best cam manufacturers out there too. That really sucks.

*sigh*

sadly enough, i think this is just the beginning of these kinds of closures...

but as with all things business related, out with the old - in with the new. The old manufacturers with a reputation may go down, but that just opens up the door for more lower tier shops to take the lead.

yeah, ive been sour at crane for several years now since their ignition box crapped out on me when it was 20 degrees out and it was 30 mins to home. lol

I would be pissed to. There is nothing worse than being stranded on the side of the road in shitty weather. My sis's Civic left me on the side of the road 3 months after she bought it. I havent driven an import since.

maybe for v8...not Honda. :no: my cousin snap them on his car. they are not safe for 10k rpm.

crane cams have never produced recognizable results in a honda thats for sure.

Regardless of the little onesies and twosies stories out there, they were one of the best MANUFACTURERS out there. As far as grinds... well, they could use some more schooling on how to make smaller displacement motors make power --- but they were a decent "middle of the road" provider. They were making cams for imports before the founders of your now-favorite companies were even born... LOL. I remem running a D16A6 cam from them in the early 90s that made good midrange - it was just about the only cam to run before switching to Comp Cams for the single cam.

you revved a v8 to 10k? a honda engine may actually survive that. but not a v8.

PS if it was a honda, the cam probably wasnt designed to go to 10k since the engine isnt either. dont cams rotate twice as fast as engine speed anyways?

crane was a DECENT V8 domestic cam, they never made an import cam worth a shit
