I've been ever since i was 4 yrs. old., So i'm quite used to it by now. 4 shots a day does get quite old. I'm sitting in the hospital right now. Originally came here because i was having some really bad asthma, which i've had since i was 2 yrs. old., and could barely breath. So my pulse-ox was at about 88-89 when i first came in. It's not at 97-98, but i'm still here because the steroids and meds they've been giving has made my blood sugar go crazy. This morning i woke up and it was 557! And for you that don't know, the range to shoot for is around 100. I've got an app. with my doctor in March because they kept re-scheduling my appt. I've been trying to get the insulin pump for about 4 years now but they keep telling me they have to stabilize my bllod sugar more, and quite frankly I'm tired of hearing that. With the pump it would be just so much more convenient and I'm sure it would help stabilize my blood sugar better than the regular injections. I was looking at the One touch Omni pump. It can be controlled by a PDA or through some cell phones. Pretty cool if you ask me. Diabetes just seems to be so inconvenient. I always have to worry about having all my shots and supplies. It's holding me back from joining the armed forces. It just seems to hold me back alot of the time, and there's really nothing i can do about it, and that really sucks.. :(

hey man..be careful w/ that insulin pump...its convenient nad all..but i have no trust in it when it stopped pumping insulin into my sister and she basically passed out at the wheel in her car. she basically went from one side of the road to the other and clipped a power line pole...talk about me scared...yea..i'm scared. she has a new one now, no problems, but ever since that, i dont trust them.

Damn, that's crazy. But i've been reading up on a few of them now. And I've heard nothing but good about the omni one. And also if i got it, that means 1 stick every three days, instead of 4 every single day.

Thanks man. I have type 1 and it sucks. I take a shot before each meal, then one before bed. I'm pretty used to it by now, but it still is no fun at all..

Yeah, i understand what you're saying. I've been using the Insulin pens for a few years now. They're a whole lot better than the old way, with the syringe and all. The pump would just be one up on that. :goodjob:

Unfortunately, i have to live with it everyday, and i can't do anything about that. It sucks man. I don't let it hold me back though. I'm still very active and all. It's just something you can't let bring you down. I'm sure if you ask some people that know me, you'd never know i had it. haha.

I try my hardest, but there's always those times when it does get to me. But thanks. It's nice to know that some people do care.

i am surrounded at work by diabetics. one lady doesnt have it that bad i never see her testing herself. i do not know if she has to take shots or not. she doesnt eat right when she does eat. her eating is like a nun having sex.

the guy next to me worries me though. i see him eat nothing but fatty foods(fastfood and fried foods), lots of candy, and lots of honey buns/danishes(at least 2). thats in a 4 hour period. yes he is very overweight. he is pretty cool but i dont feel i sould say anything to him aboot it.

then there was this one lady with juvinial diabeates. she went in to shock one day and everyone thought she was drunk. at the time i dont think anyone knew she was diabetic at the time. luckly the lady above realized what was going on and pretty much saved her life.

i see what these people go threw and i dont think i could do it myself. your a pretty strong person to go threw this for as long as you have. much respect to you. i know when i went threw my cancer treatments at the end i really wanted to just die. it took all i had to keep pushing on. glad i did cause i have a 3 year old son now. he is about the only thing i have done right in my life.

I haven't had any seizures or anything since i was way younger. It was just so crazy because it was like i couldn't control myself. Pretty crazy. I don't always eat right, but i always make up for it when it comes to my shots. So it always evens out.

Living with any chronic disease is a challenge every day. I have Crohn's Disease, and I've struggled with it for almost 40 years...more than 10 before it was even diagnosed.
I've known people with diabetes, and it sounds like you're doing everything right...except maybe making up for bad diet with your insulin. But everyone is different, and you seem plenty aware enough to handle it.
Keep a good attitude and keep up with it like you have been! As you have found, you learn to cope with it after a while, and it's only a big deal occasionally.
Good luck, and keep it up!

Thanks man. I've learned to live with it and work with it over the years. After living with it for so long, when i feel a certain way I can tell what's wrong, which really does help sometimes. I don't necessarily have a bad diet. I actually try and stick to my diet. But when i do stray away from my diet, i have to compensate for it with more insulin. I use a sliding scale, so that is what I'm supposed to do.:goodjob: Good luck with everything. Hope everything works out good for you, also.
