Alright, heres the deal. This past weekend, a bunch of students from Gwinnett Tech competed in a Statewide Career Development Conference for Delta Epsilon Chi, a marketing group for technical college students. We had 5 people place first and 3 place second. We all have the great opportunity to go to Anaheim, California to take place in the International Career Development Conference, held at the Anaheim Hilton. Here is where it gets complicated.

To get 8 students and our advisor out there, we are looking at a little over $8,000 roughly. It is a little out of the schools budget, so we need to come up with a way to raise money. I know fellow car enthusiasts are always willing to help out for a good cause, and this is for a great cause.

I was thinking of having a meet/car show/cookout (MAYBE) either at GTC or somewhere else to raise funds for GTC. Im ironing out details, and I have to check with our director of student affairs to make sure we could use the parking lot, but I dont see why we couldnt use it on like a Saturday or Sunday.

The cost is to be determined, I wanted to keep it low at about $10 a car so people would be more willing to come out since it wouldnt cost an arm and a leg. 100% of the proceeds will go into the colleges DEX (Delta Epsilon Chi) club funds to help fund this trip.

I guess Im just seeing how many people would be willing to do something like this, to help out for a good cause and have some fun and hang out in the meantime. We would love to raffle off some prizes or have a couple trophies for the cars people like the most, but again all of these details will be determined. Im just gauging interest to see how many people would be willing to do this to help out.

Please vote in the poll and throw up any suggestions/comments, and whether or not you would be willing to come and why. I know there are a lot of GTC students on here, I am going to try to get with some of the auto tech instructors and see if we can tie in with them.

I know the date and time would have a lot to do with if people would attend or not, but its just the general idea, if you would be willing to help out if you are available at the time of the event and whatnot. Lets hear it!

I will update later on in the day after I talk to her, but keep the yes's/no's and suggestions coming!

Of course, this isnt something that can be pulled off in the alotted time period according to my club adviser, he has to get all this shit signed and OK'ed and he told us to basically forget it. But I think its a load of bullshit, and forgetting it is the last thing we are doing.

We are going to try to take the meet elsewhere, to a parking lot somewhere where we can legally do this and charge money to get in. We are hell bent on getting to california for nationals, its way too good of an opportunity and experience to pass up.

Would people be willing to do it outside of the school? If we were to have it for instance somewhere in Buford, or somewhere around Gwinnett?

Sunny I PM'ed you.

sounds like a good idea but i doubt your really gonna get up enough money from this. Also if you dont get up enough money what do you plan on doing with the money you do get?

100% of the proceeds will go into the colleges DEX (Delta Epsilon Chi) club funds to help fund this trip.

There ya go. Whatever we raise goes into the club funds, and it helps the school get us out there. If we dont raise enough money, it will be enough to get a few people out there. We are tapping other resources here as well. I have gotten a TON of commitments at school and through friends.

We wont know unless we try, so we are trying.

How about this. Why not try that Pep boys in Kennesaw they hold meets at sometimes, or try a place that could benefit both of you. Like getting them advertisement and helping you w/ your donations.

Thats what we are going for. Im going to tell our student-life president this upcoming week what all we are doing, why we are doing it, and how it helps them. It gets Gwinnett Tech recognized on a national stage which is always a good thing. Im going to get with the auto services instructors and get some information on their program and what all it has to offer, and make that available to all people at the meet, so those who dont know what they want to do can check it out.

Im meeting with her in like a week, so its realllllly pushing it. If we cannot pull this off for the trip, we are going to do it for a good cause later down the road (2-3 months from now). So the meet is definitely happening, its just a matter of getting GTC to let us do it.

Ive had such positive feedback about this event. Its going to happen, its just a matter of when. It could be as early as Sunday, March 8th. I WILL NOT make it the same weekend as Southeast Drag Day/Import Faceoff, Im not stupid. Blooddrag is the weekend of the 28th as well as Sunny's crazy weekend, so that weekend is out as well. March 8th is the best date for us.

Is there anything the weekend of the 8th that anyone knows of? That is the weekend I have in mind when I talk to the student life director.

Sunny, PM ME BACK! :goodjob:

We also need a good creative name for this. It has to incorporate Gwinnett Technical College, but thats it. Since it is to raise money for the Anaheim trip, we thought of calling it:

Gwinnett Technical College: Anaheim or Bust Meet
Brought to you by:
Sports Management and Delta Epsilon Chi Organizations
Sponsored by:
YOUR NAME HERE

Creative, it sums up what we are doing, and it has the college's name in there. I am putting together a presentation for the meeting with our student-life, so I am trying to iron out details.

Is there anything the weekend of the 8th that anyone knows of?

It may not pertain to the group of cars for your show, but there is a Wag-O-Van meet on the 8th and the OSJC meet on the 7th. Other than that, I don't know. Later, QD.

In order for you to get 8 people out there at a total of $8,000, you'll need for 800 cars to show up at the $10 cost. That won't happen. What if someone is doing this solely for the cause of getting the students out there and it doesn't happen? You briefly touched on that by saying if it can get one student out there. At that point, you'd need 100 cars to show up. Although not too far-fetched, I do doubt that this event would draw even close to that. Hopefully you have back up plans to help this cause.

What I think would be a good idea is to NOT have this event so close to now and get all the money you can through sponsors and other avenues and keep a running tab of how much left you need. All the while advertising this event for a later date so you'll have a smaller figure to raise. I know the way money is with a lot of people that they won't want to donate to something if they think that cause won't be met.

Not bashing at all as I wish you luck in this. Hope it works out for everyone. Later, QD.

The auto tech program at GTC is top notch, one of the best in the areas. I think it is just as good as UTI considering the price difference in tuition.

This event is being pushed back about a month or so and will be a charity event, probably for families of the troops or something to do with homeless animals and/or the humane society.

This is my event, so I can pick the charity of my choice. If any of you have a true passion about a charity that you would like to donate to, PM me and tell me why. The only charity we dont want to do is anything with breast cancer, we are running a golf tournament in the next 6 months and all of the proceeds from that tournament will go to the breast cancer charity that we choose.
