EF Squad 2009 Mountain Run Discussion

Alright, the words "mountain run" have been spoken to me by quite a few of you, so im throwing up this thread so we can get a better idea of when this is gonna go down.



So.. all of you locals, caleb, brad, chris, luke (sorry if i left anyone out), put your input in and let us know when the weather is gonna get warmer, and the roads aren't gonna be covered in gravel anymore :D

I won't be doing march, but mid march is an awesome time. Bikes aren't out in full force, yet, but there WILL still be a little gravel on the edges. The later in march, the more bikes/less gravel. April has clean roads, but tourists, hikers, and bicycles start to crowd the roads...

Part is 70$. Machine shop can press it in 3days include drop off and pick up. Add 2hours to remove the spindle, 2hours to install in an average typical home-garage setup...

Build in Cali-Car is here, but I'd have to pay for storage and stuff, and I'd probably buy one from here which means I have to deal with Cali emissions and registration and such. Plus I still wouldn't have anything to drive when I got to Ga...
Build in Ga-Car is across the country and I don't trust other people on my car...especially one that will be used for enthusiastic driving. I don't intend to use my short periods of time at home in the garage. I wanna hang with people and crap.
Build an EF-I'd be putting my money into a car that's driven on rare occasion, and would prevent me from 1) building the mustang AND 2) prevent me from purchasing the kit car I wanna build (Factory Five Racing's AC Cobra replica) or building an old classic car.
Build the Mustang-Can't really afford to build the EF if I'm building the Mustang. The SC I plan to get a roush roots-style 5K kit...that's without a tune. I still need to get the suspension, rims, and tires, and I'll probably call it a day with the stang...but by the time that's all done, I'll be close to coming back to Ga, anyways.

Therein lies my problem...and why I haven't done anything, yet...

Bryan is INDEED an awesome driver, and we have yet to get a chance to compete head-2-head. With him and I doing such a competition, it would be unsafe to go at it in the mountains. We're both aggressive and both fast and both can drive well. Do I think I'm faster given the same car and same setup? No. But until him and I get a chance to prove what's up, neither of us can claim the title. If I can't claim it based on this fact, neither can he. :tongue1: However, I DO hope that him and I can go H2H someday when I return to Ga. I've got all respect and I've never said less about his driving. I think it will be fun when we finally get the day. But yes...he is indeed one of the top two in the mountains (that I've seen/know of...) Not to say no one has improved on their car/driving, but when I was leading the runs, Bryan and I would usually hop out and have a minute to talk before the rest of the crew came trailing in. He truly brought my best ability out in me...because if I didn't bring it out, he definitely would have had me. He kept me on the tire-walls.

im not really concerned with who is the fastest, but i can promise you that these n/a guys will have a really hard time keeping up with boosted EFs.. even if they had better suspension, stock b/d/zc just dont have the power to pull out of turns and straights like a boosted car.

Sure, if you've got a 180-200whp all motor car its going to handle it just fine. But most stock n/a swaps in general don't have a powerband thats near as comfortable to use in the mountains.

Hypothetically speaking because we haven't been together on a track, but even if me and him were both decent drivers but worse drivers than you, we are both 200+whp range. All 3 of us know how to drive a line and enter/exit turns, a Si has no chance honestly of thinking about keeping up. I personally don't run high speeds down the straights and 90% of the time i maintain the speed limits but i do enter turns quickly and power out hard.

What setup are you running? And what tires are you running? JW.

Its really dependent on the day. If you cant put the power down then you wont be fast. My car wasnt very fast. From a dig was DEAD even door to door with a I/E ITR on race tires to 100mph.

I've only run two EF's on the track that were boosted and had no problem running them down. But yes, with the right setup and the right driver, a boosted EF is faster.

Then again none of this effects me. Torque FTW :ninja:

I currently run bfg g-forces which arent the greatest tire but i drive the car to work alot and don't have a second set of tires. They are plenty sticky for semi-daily/spirited driving. I could easily get a set of victoracers or something but i don't have a need to be competitive.

Pretty much the only time i have traction problems in the mountains is powering out of turns, but thats if i exit full throttle every time, i've driven the roads and car enough to easily modulate the gas to where i can still exit quickly and stay in plenty of power.

I'd say that was a good run with the ITR, however you've gotta keep in mind thats basically a 15 second car battle.

But to try and make the point that being boosted only is a hinderance doesn't make much sense.

I wish. I really do man. I really enjoyed driving that thing at the track. It was probably the most competitive car i have owned for its class. And on top of that, it was cheap. Race tires were less then $200 a tire, i only had to buy front pads, etc. I want her back :cry:

My argument was bringing into play the experience factor. Yes, if you both have the exact skill and setup, the one with more power will outrun. But if you have different cars, and the slower driver is more experienced...my money's on the slower car...

My argument was bringing into play the experience factor. Yes, if you both have the exact skill and setup, the one with more power will outrun. But if you have different cars, and the slower driver is more experienced...my money's on the slower car...

Actually, yes. IA's apparent requirements for a race car:

#1) stickers with a number.
#2) lowering springs
#3) roll bar (or just tint your windows so nobody can tell)

So yes you could easily be race car status.
