I just bought a 97 Blazer (4.3 V6) that has no oil pressure once it warms up. Has a very slight rattle above 3800+ RPM. No metal in the oil or old filter (did oil change today). Could I get away with just sticking a pump in you think?

Edit: before anyone says thats shady or whatever Im not fixing it to sell ;) Its my beater.

I also checked alldata... it says to remove the engine to replace the pump. Can it be done with the engine in the truck? Just take the motor mounts off and lift the engine up enough to drop the pan? If it has to come out Ill replace the engine before I do all that only to have it not be the pump.

Ill probably give that a shot, the high volume pump is only $32 so I figure its worth trying. I love how alldata said to to do it.

1. Remove engine

2. Remove oil pan.

3. Remove oil pump.

Thats all the detail it gave, seriously. :lmao:

Screw pull-a-part... A local junk yard here has one ready to go for $300 with a 90 day warranty.

I need to get a mechanical gauge on it first, this engine runs to good to not have oil pressure.

my 4.3 "w" (throttle body non-vortec) had the same problem , all it was , was the oil sending unit. i put almost 100,000 miles on it when it started reading 0 psi. i actually had 372,000 on mine when i sold it. and it still ran dependable , and was almost all original (except starter , alt. , water pump , the usual maintenance)

My TBI 4.3 in the old 87 I had ran for 3 years with a blown head gasket but it was running out the exhaust. Had to add water every 4-5 days or so but ran great.
