Okay, well anyways. We were relaxing at a friend's apartment, Mr. X says he needs to go to his sister's place. He says " Can I take the M?" This goes on for about 30 minutes, then I finally succumb and Mr. X leaves. Approximately 20 minutes later, Mr. X calls me saying he hit a curb, both passenger wheels are fucked. Mr. X is a sarcastic guy, so I didn't believe him or I thought at worst he curbed my wheels. We hop into the Civic Si and navigated to the spot where my car was located, approximately 1.5 miles down the road. As we pull into the area, I immediately noticed my car was leaning one side and the damage was greater than we had anticipated. From what I can tell from the scene of the accident, he accelerated at a rapid pace in 1st gear out of her complex, shifted to second most likely in the apex of the turn, and began to fish tail as indicated by the irregular tire marks. He then proceeded to impact the curb almost parallel, hurdle over it with all four wheels, and slide into the mud narrowly avoiding a tree. He continued traveling this arced path and nearly connected with a light pole before crossing the curb once more and exiting back into the street. I can assume that this happened at approximately 40 MPH, as far as I know, none of my suspension components were bent. Nothing visibly appears to be bent beside the wheels. Mr. X is assuming full responsibility for his actions.

Well... quick estimate:
Tires $467 mounted and balanced
Wheels $600 to repair if possible
M3 front bumper $600 painted
Rieger front lip $250
total: $1917

assuming no suspension components are bent...

E36's will kill newbs. I don't mean to sound cliche or funny but they just DO! Come to the track and just about every single weekend if a car goes into the wall it's going to be an E36. Don't quote me because it's not 100% true but I'd put money down if a group of cars are running and someone has a bo-bo it'll be an e36. I don't mind though, just makes mine more rare for me!

And there are 80% E36 at track events if it is a BMWCCA event. Not fair!

I just think M3's in general are not a car to drive fast your first time out.

I would say the opposite. Car and Driver named the best handling car at any price the E36 M3. Maybe a bit of a stretch but the article says it won because how easy it was to drive fast and it is forgiving.

If you go out, floor it in 2nd and shift at redline mid corner well even the M3 is not going to help you there.

I will tell them I will take care of the tow and they will still offer lifetime warranty and I am taking it to one of the actual good body shops in Atlanta like Magnum.

They will cover aftermarket stuff up to a point. Or you can do like I did. I have 10K in coverage added onto the car for my suspension, seats and other parts. So if it gets totaled or stolen or a wreck I get what I am due.

Over confidence is def. true but it's also the simple fact that the cars limits are SO high even in today standards and when you cross them with little experience (which you have to be moving to do) you are probably going to end up in a wall. The E30 and even E46 are just more forgiving and playful if you ask me from my experiences with them
I believe Road And Track tested a Dinan M3 with shocks/springs/wheels and it slalom'd around 72.5 MPH and managed around 1g on the skidpad. Yes it was modified but those cheap parts get you Enzo like handling numbers on paper. That's amazing!
I'd also say some good clutch worth will easily get you around a corner, shifting at red line. Not saying do it, but i've been in the situation and it's simply a case of one not knowing how to shift mid-corner that'll put you in a ditch

I disagree. I think the e36 is very playful in the hands of a driver. The real issue I see with the e36 M3 is it likes to SNAP back if you try to man handle it. Thus in the hands of someone who doesn't know what they are doing and they swing it out the e36 wants to gain traction and it will snap back on you pretty hard.

That is the limit you are talking about. It is high but riding the limit is a bit more difficult.

Wheels are most likely irreplaceable. I had a talk with the insurance adjuster, and he said he is going to talk to his manager about the issue. Apparently, they are only liable to replace two wheels. MR. X will have to pay me $580 (deductible + extra charge for the tires I had) the full repair is estimated at roughly $2300.

What do you mean they claim they are only responsible for 2 wheels? Are the other 2 still round and of same condition before the accident? If not how are they not liable?

Also I doubt you find 2 of them matching...

I will have a problem! They need to buy me a new set of four wheels for the dealer price on my wheels. Which according to REALOEM is $633.33 a piece.

I don't know what they are doing yet. My wheels are OEM BMW wheels, but as far as I know they have been discontinued. I refinished them myself, I took them apart, painted the centers, polished the lips and center nuts, and ordered BBS caps.

:ninja:
i would have beat mr. x's ass.
