I don't want this thread to die. I love aquariums and I've always wanted a salt water one. Too pricey though. The fresh water is just a pain all the time.

I don't know if you're on cichlid-forum.com or not (biggest cichlid site) but I won tank of the month in April 2004. It was a 135g hap/mbuna tank:
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/tanks/displaytank.php?tank=1413
My advice on your mbuna tank - try to replicate their environment more. You wouldn't find rocks carefully stacked like that in the wild, you know? Mbuna tanks like large boulders (big granite rocks can be found anywhere around Atlanta) and a sand substrate.
I currently have a 55g Tanganyikan tank (with no pictures :( ) with some breeding Julidochromis regani "Kacheese" if you're interested in some new rarer fish. I also have some Cyprochromis leptosoma "Blue Flash" that should be breeding any week now.
Oh, and here's my 45g high light/Co2 injected planted Discus tank with horrible iphone pictures. Every other week the tank is completely covered with plants and you can't see the back so I have to trim it all down.

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/8311/discus01.jpg
Here's the tank before I added the high light, fertilizers, and Co2:

If anyone wants super cheap plants (like 5-10 bucks for tons of plants) for their aquarium let me know. I have so many that grow so fast I have to throw them away!!!

That stuff is too expensive for me :) I have a little 10g tank that I was going to set up as a nano reef. I was trying to find some live rock on craigslist because I don't want to spend 7-8 dollars a pound at an LFS.
Yep, I'm a cheapass :) You can see that the tank isn't even sitting on a stand that fits. There is about 8" of tank hanging off each side of that wooden stand! My light strips don't fit any kind of hood so their placed over the tank and I use the paper that the bulbs came in to cover over the front so the light doesn't leak out into the rest of my living room.
My lighting fixtures are Lowe's dual 48" strip fixtures (I have two on the planted tank) that I paid 9 bucks apiece for because I didn't want to spend 100-200 bucks on a Coralife setup (Hey, I'm making 4 wpg!). I inject Co2 by mixing sugar water and yeast into three 2liter bottles and running an airline into a powerhead because I didn't want to spend 300 bucks on a pressurized setup.
My planted tank is super ghetto, but it can be done. I just can't seem to find a way to do a coral setup cheaply. I've heard of people using utility lights and wiring their own ballast into it and a few 70W metal halide bulbs. I might end up doing that because, well, I don't want to spend a lot :)

yea the lights are fuckin expensive!! cause ours were around 400.... but mine does not look bad does it?

No dude that's a great start. I can't even imagine how much that'd all cost retail! Corals are sweet but the cost is what has held me back!
What is that, a 29g?

Hey, I have a 55 gallon tank, but I'm kinda out of it, due to the fact that one of my tank light bulb keeping dying on me. I replaced the bulbs a couple of times, but after a few days it just stop working. I'm thinking it just the whole cover that mess up, but I can't seem to find any place around Atlanta that sells just a cover. Anyone know of a place, or have a clean working one for sale?
afwfjustin
i might hit you up for some plants, cuz I much rather have real plants in my tanks then this fake stuff!!! lol, but I need to light up my aquarium first!!
Also anyone have some fresh water fish for sale for the low? I'm cheap too!!:lmfao:

Dude, get a dual 48" workshop light fixture from lowes for $9.00. I have two of those on my 45long (same footprint as your 55g) giving me four 48" bulbs. They're only T12 bulbs but as you can see, it more than gets the job done. Hit me up anytime and I'll give you some advice because I did this entire aquarium (minus the cost for my discus fish) for about 250, and that's including the cost of the aquarium, filter, powerhead, substrate, lighting, fertilizers, and Co2 injection. If there's one thing I know, it's how to be a cheapass :) The filter I have on there is basically for shits and giggles anyway, because having plants and the right cleanup crew (snails, shrimp, corydoras) eliminates the need for having a filter at all really. The tank's plants basically make the tank become it's own ecosystem.
I have so many plants i'm just throwing them away every two weeks because I don't have anyone to give them to.

I would keep checking on CL. I scored a really nice one on there with live rock and all for pretty cheap. Ended up parting it out like a car and made money. But if you are in a hurry go to atlantareefclub.org

Im going to try and see if I can dig up some pictures of the one we had back in college. It was a 50 gallon saltwater tank.. Had a huge liverock, clownfish, angelfish, seahorse, seastar, sea cucumber, and a few little fish.. PITA to take care of but man was that thing beautiful!!
