There's a bushing where the shift rod attaches to the tranny and some where the shifter bridge attaches to the tranny. Replace all of them and it will feel like new butter.

does the shifter arm move or just the shifter itself?

There are bushings in the shifter carrier at the front and back. You need to replace all of those(recommend the delrin up front) and a fresh OEM rubber in the back.

It will always have some movement though. There is movement in the trans itself.

mine aren't either, but I replaced them with some urethane bushings so they better not be. lol if its moving mostly left/right its either the bushing on the bottom of the shifter or the one where the shift rod meets the tranny.

I know, I was talking about my RTABs. They were so bad that I could almost push the steel sleeve out with my hand. Much tighter now. lol
