longblock-couple inches longer than regular.
shortblock-couple inches shorter than regular.

there are long/short/regular sizes for different generations. but theyre all pretty much the same.

just kidding.

shortblock comes with only the block, pistons/rods, crank/crankcase, probably not the head.

longblock comes with block, the whole bottom end, the head, injectors, both manifolds, maybe starter+alternator.

More power with a lonblock?

The term longblock and shortblock come from purchasing crate engine's. As stated above the longblock will include heads or head and the shortblock will be the bottom end only. The physical block built with the rotating assembly. A block on its own is just a block, no crank, no pistons, no rods, but should always have the main caps or you will have to line hone it.

A B18C1 is a B18C1 is a B18C1, stamped on the block, pistons if stock should be stamped P72. Some people also include accesories with used longblocks, like intake and exaust manifolds, altenator, ps pump and things of that nature.

thanks?Wow! A long block is the special edition 5-cylinder version. Everybody knows that! The rotational mass of the 5-cylinder is better balanced and runs more smoothly.
