View Full Version : tC shifting speed question

i just bought a 09 tC 5 speed. after the annoyingly long break in period, i decided it was time to floor it and see how it was. things went smoothly for a while. but on the final test, i heard a loud bang during the shift from 1st to 2nd. i got out and checked everything. there was no leaks or broken parts. thank god.. lol..

anyways, reason for the story is: i noticed today that 1st gear hits redline (6200 rpm ish) at 30mph and 2nd at 50mph. 3rd gear hits it at 80 mph. i was wondering if this is correct or my loud bang incident had anything to do with it. i asked because most of my other cars topped 1st gear at 40mph and 2nd at 60mph. just a lil concerned. other than the speeds, nothing else seems wrong with it. shifts smoothly and accelerates out of corners normally.

wondering if any other tC owner or someone who knows can help me out. thanx.

i dont hit the rev limiter, but i shift right when the needle hits red. no rev limiter at that point.. thanx man, hopefully it is just my paranoia.

this is kinda stupid.. but..

i just checked on stock tC in forza 2. hits redline at 30 mph for 1st gear, 50 mph for 2nd gear, and 80 mph for 3rd gear. now the question is, how accurate is forza? lol..

Based on this post, I'll wager you fuck it up before you hit 10k.

Because you just got it and you're already taking it up to redline. Not a good thing for a brand new car.

[QUOTE=TRD tC]after the annoyingly long break in period, i decided it was time to floor it and see how it was.QUOTE]

i was gentle with the break in point. i even went to toyota for an oil change at 500 miles before i started to floor it.

Not really familiar with newer cars but...
I dont think youre supposed to wait till redline to shift.
I thought you were supposed to shift at the end of or within your "usable power band' or whathaveyou?

Does scion have recommended shift speeds somewhere in the car manual?
My datsun had em in its manual, but maybe it just an old car thing.
