View Full Version : the bank made an error in your favor...

alright, so if the bank made an error in your favor, what would you do?

my aunt, she withdrew money out of her 401k because she felt like she was losing too much of it. i think she withdrew like $100k, and had it put into her regular savings account. she kept checking her balance over the phone to see when it would go through...and finally the funds went through, but the bank made a MAJOR mistake. instead of depositing $100k, they deposited $100M!

i suggested that she wait for about 1 week and see if they caught their mistake..if not, take the loot and get as FAR AWAY from america as possible, lol. hell...if bernie madoff can get away with $50M in stolen loot, and still chill in his $7M apartment on "house arrest," then it should be o.k. for everyone else. what would you do?

Tell the bank they made a mistake. I would never feel right if I didn't earn the money the right way.

Yea they will catch it.

Redrum, did you deposit cash?

A wire transfer will be picked up and they will take the money back even if she spent ALL of it. I ahd a similar situation to the tune of $1,000's and they took it back. It won't feel good with a multi million dollar overdraw fee....

FAG. DOUCHE. LOSER. PUSSY.

I don't know, those word just came to my mind.. Especially after hearing 100 million $$..

I don't know how you could get the money out or transferred into another bank account.. But if there was a way, I would desert this country in a second and leave everything behind..

Get me a mountain house in the Alps, France. A beach bungalow in Tahiti. A mansion in Canada. A castle in south of France. Condo on Copacabana in Rio Brazil. A penthouse in Honk Kong. Private island in Costa Rica. Townhouse in Germany. A Yatch to travel the seas.. A private jet. I will alternate 3 months at each place.. And don't get me started on the cars..

she never took the money out and told me that she won't...i only made that as a suggestion to her. she's got 2 small children, a husband, good job, etc...but for someone like me, who only has their freedom to lose...i'd give it a GOOOOOD THOUGHT. i'd do like FROG said, get the hell out america. go build me a villa on some remote island.

lol, oh and you really think you're important enough for me to make up a story for you??? ok...

If she wanted too.. she could call up a Swiss bank, set up an account, transfer it to there. There's nothing the American bank could do to get it back.

Be sure she does actually get her $100,000 though. It would suck they catch the error and only give her $10,000.

Good for her but you couldnt transfer/withdraw it without a red flag coming up so you would never see the money. Trust me I know.

Contact the bank and be an honest human being?I would give it back just as a personal moral decision. I feel whole heartedly that what goes around comes around. I don't want any shit comin' around on me. I also believe that I am semi-psychic because I am an Aquarius :) – a total hippie at heart. I know most people would take it though. That's just human nature, I guess.

BUT if someone put $10 or $1m in my bank account, I would never know it because I have a student account with $0 in it. I get an online statement and I never even look at it because I know there is no money in it. So why bother? That's just my story though. Most people would have known and taken the money and played dumb :D

in all seriousness, an errors that huge WILL get caught. It will get flagged by so many agencies its not funny, from the GOVT to the bank, to FBI, etc.

$1000 they can POSSIBLY miss, anything over that, they will catch it eventually.

If you took 100million, you would have every bounty hunter, newsagency, govt official after you , you would not get very far. Even though its their error, most banks have user agreements that will supercede any "its a mistake its mine"

they WILL get their money, one way or another.

I would take it all out and donate it to charity in the name of God. If one questions it, I would tell them that I prayed for me to be able to help people in need; then I woke up and it was there. If they continue to harass me, I will kneel and pray.......

If that doesn't work I will leave the country.

Hahahahaa Talk about an accounting error. She would be imprisoned immediately if she did anything else with the money.

Although she could put it in a high yield account... or several of them for that matter since each is only insured up to $250k

$99,900,000 mistake actually

Exactly, I was beginning to think that no one caught the 100M

any proof that they made the mistake? you should invest it all, and keep the profits.

I'm sure the banks know where the money is...and they are going to want it back...so you can give it back, but keep the profit money.
