D16y8 is vtec, maybe someone has changed the head or taken off the vtec, or maybe youre over looking it. Non vtec would be a d16y7

you got vtec man!! :goodjob: the vtec motors have spark plugs on the bottom of the valve cover.. non-vtec is on the top!!

No my Y7 plugs are at the bottom too. I know the y8's don't say vtec on the valve cover but they still have a solenoid, if it don't have a solenoid then its a y7 head.

Do you mean the VALVE COVER doesn't say VTEC? Because a lot of them don't... the z6 vc says vtec, don't think the y8 does.

i have a d16y8 and vtec pulls hard on mine..you gotta get ur vtec broke back in bc the previous owner that had mine never got on it, i had to keep getting on vtec so it cud pop in nice and now it works great. so idk maybe my scenario will work.
