~Ordered my engine mount kit the other night, WOOT WOOT!! Should have it next week.
~Trying to get my hands on some shift linkage and CTR pulley on another forum.
~Should have my OBD2 main and dash wiring harnesses today or tomorrow (yeap, converting to OBD2, AEM EMS).
~This weekend Ill continue on my tucked ODB2 engine harness. Got extra wires to cut out and others to relocate. Fun times.
~Probably will be grinding away at more seam sealer tonight. Not only do I think it looks like dog ish but Im gonna be seam welding it too. And a little prep for the eventual cage :ninja: Also will be cutting out any bracket for the rear seat and anything else unnecessary. All that stuff is is weight!!
~Oh, and picked up the door moldings from BigDare the other night, good meeting you man. I got some of the dents worked out already by hand. Gonna try not manipulation with a light hammer and see how I can get them.

All thats left to bolt it in is a 2 post mount (tryin to source one on eBay) and a rear DA tranny bracket!!!! Then a bunch of other stuff before I gotta gather for the turbo and what not before I actually do the swap.

Yeap, OBD2. I already have the engine harness and the OBD2 EMS. If I didnt, then I would go OBD1. But since I have it all, I might as well. That am Im not afraid to tackle wiring.

Shift linkage and pulley fell through. Still need the linkage at least. CTR pulley can wait.

So I got my Innovative 85a billet mounts today. Also go my 2 post DA engine mount and my Function & Form lower control arms.
Ill have my CTR crank pulley tomorrow and my DA Tranny T-bracket on Friday.
I just might rip my engine and all out next week and set the B-series in the hole. :ninja:
I still have a good list of crap to get. Axles, shift linkage, turbo, exhaust, intercooler, piping, traction bar..... Damn, I thought I was doing well :(
I gotta start on my Hyrdo pedal assembly too. Ive kinda mocked it up a couple times but havent made anything yet.

bigdare23
01-28-2009, 04:14 PM
So you're not using a cable to hydro conversion?

By the way what tranny are you going to use?

Bus Driver J
01-28-2009, 09:44 PM
Nope, no cable/hydro conversion. Im gonna mount the clutch master on the pedal assembly like in the pic below ((not mine, but similar to what Im making)). I thought the cable to hydro would have too many things to go wrong. This way its all hydro.
I have a hydro EM1 SI S4C for now. Not sure if Ill use it with a different gear set or just go with an LS cause the boost. But for now Ill be running the S4C without an LSD, that should be fun....

Just throw an option out there for ya

Why not try to find a cheap ys1 tranny and throw your guts in it. Thats the only cable tranny that share the same interiors as the hydro trannys. You can have the best of both worlds.

Oh snap!! Thanks a ton. I did endless searching on this about a month ago and hardly found anything. What I was thinking was pretty similar to that one. I was gonna add one more brace on mine on the left side.
I might just make a copy of that one :ninja:

.....because I have a hydro and already bought the mount kit for it. That and I honestly dont feel that comfortable with a cable. Dont know why, I just dont.

Did some more work on it today.
~Yanked the seats and carpet out and dry iced the sound deadening. Then grinded on most of the seam sealer under that. I took some pics but Im waaay too tired to load them up right now. Still havent done anymore work in the rear since the last photos.
I was pretty disappointed in the weight loss. Total with all the sound deadening, some of the seam sealer scrapped up, and the jute padding under the carpet, it was 13.5 pounds. Lamn!!! I spent about 5 hours on that crap and for only 13.5 lbs... I took out the evaporator and a/c harness and at least that was 9.5lbs.

~I got most of the engine harness how Im gonna like it. I just gotta cut the long wires down and resolder them. Then sleeve the whole harness. Should look nice when its all done. The only wires in the entire engine bay you should see are the coolant sensors and the COP harness. Everything else will be :ninja: Im gonna convert to coil on plug (COP) so the dist and plug wires will be gone in favor of small loom of wires sneaking from behind the valve cover. Fuse box will be relocated and all that normal tuck jazz.

~I think we are ordering some roll cage tubing next week so Ill get starting on that soon too. Just gonna do a simple 4 point with harness bar. Nothing elaborate.

I think Ill do a full build thread once I get the B-series running. Or at least in the car. Until then this is it I guess.

Been a while since I made a post in this thread put UPDATES UPDATES!!!!
Im now going with the CRX as the track car. Ill try and get a title for it but for now it will be a trailer bitch, kinda :ninja:
I got my Gates Racing timing belt in and installed. Saturday I had pulled the eng out so it can go in the black hatch. SO today the B went into the rex. Fits pretty well except for the tranny hitting the bracket on the front crossmember. Ill get a traction bar setup eventually.
You can see a sneak peek of the harness in the one pic, I have the engine harness 90% finished. Still have the coil on plug harness to make and the harness under the intake manifold still needs to be covered.
Id rather have the fitting in the top on the wastegate but it hit the hood, I hate the way it looks with just a hole, looks like loose ends to me.
I was grinnin hardcore earlier until I realized how tired I was. 10pm and Im still at work....
Enjoy

Also, Good progress!

Bus Driver J

Gates actually makes belts for other companies, I think they do the HKS and the Greddy belts actually. Per Gates website, its 300% stronger and dissipates heat 3x faster. Its really not that expensive either. The OEM belt is around $75 and this belt is about $100. If you held it you can feel a difference. Its not "elasticy" like the stocker, its firmer and IMO I think its way less likely to stretch.

I worked on her some more today. (no pics though) Before I pulled the d15 last weekend I weighed the car as is. All the extra trim was in the back and anything else that *should* be on the car. Only things missing was the carpet and the l/f fender. Weighed in at 1916lbs. Fuuuuck yeah!!!

Today my task was to just clean stuff up BUT i ended up ripping the dash out and removing the firewall padding. The only thing left forward of the seats was the wiring harness cause I was too tired to take the door panels off. Im going to replace the ENTIRE harness with a universal harness like they use in race cars/ hot rods. I did a kit in my truck and it was pretty easy. Ill just need to adapt to the Honda connectors at the Ign switch, blower motor and switch, and all the exterior lights. No fluff goin back in. Lights, defrost, and horn. Right now the only things left under the hood, other than brakes and engine, is the wiper motor and the washer tank.

I ended up taking out an extra 70lbs of usless shit. That puts me below 1850 with a d series. The B will weight more plus turbo and all but it wont be too bad. I still have all the rear interior panels, headliner, etc that needs to come out as well as the wiper motor and the full washer tank. I see sub 1800 coming soon!!!!
Im getting excited on the progress. Right now its all mock up. The tranny at least has to come back out. I left the flywheel/clutch out on purpose.

I need to get a radiator and intercooler so I can start routing piping. Im gonna do hard piping to the radiator. I like the way it looks and less likely for something to rub a hole through it. Overall, it might add a pound or two but no biggie. Ive decided to go with a VW Scirocco radiator. Its tall enough to tuck under the front T-bar and still have room for the intercooler. The IC will be double back door and Im tryin to not cut the bumper at all. Then sprayed flat black straight up Ninja Style!!!

I worked on the CRX some more yesterday. Got the whole front end torn off for some cleaning. Took the door panels off and removed the entire front wiring harness. Also took out the cowl and wiper motor/linkage. Only thing left forward of drivers seats is engine, throttle cable, and brake lines/prop valve.
So far, Ive taken 113lbs of "useless" shit. That puts it at 1803 driving weight. Im going to do a custom wirig harness for the car front headlights to tail lights. One of the street rod harnesses. Im only going to be running exterior lights and engine so all those creature comfort wiring is weight....

Hrmm, interesting. Can't wait until it's all done, I have a lot of questions about converting cable to hydro because I'm tired of all the junk 90-91 (LS & B16) trannys I've used & gone through.

Bus Driver J
04-21-2009, 06:52 PM
Updates?? There are none right now. Ive been too busy and too lazy to work on it lately. I did cover the engine up today so it wouldnt get covered in dust, LOL.
I might buy my new wiring harness next week and start that headache....

For the Cable-Hydro conversion, Im basically gonna copy this:
SONEM EF bolt-in hydraulic clutch conversion (http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2472947)
Im gonna mount the reservoir in the wiper cowl and then run a -3 AN line to the slave cylinder from the clutch master. Should work pretty well, I hope.

Bus Driver J
04-26-2009, 02:51 AM
Whats that peaking in the first pics?? Thats right, started on the cage. I just have the main hoop done right now. Pretty happy with it, could be better though ((Im anal)).
The reason I put it on top of the hump is because Im 6'5". If I put it on the floor there would be no room for a cage.
It will technically be a 6 point cage. The "door" bars will end at the front of the seats. Im basically running it cause the cage is on top of the hump, just a little something extra to strengthen things.
I still have to make the floor plates. This will move the cage about 3/4" up closer to the roof. I will have to redo the brake lines, fuel lines, and fuel filler tube. I was kinda plannin on redoing them anyways.

BTW another update!! The radiator and wiring harness have been ordered. Should be here within a couple days. I got a Scirocco style radiator that should tuck perfectly into the radiator support. Its shorter and wider than stock and will give me plenty more room for the turbo. I have a Koyo half radiator for an EG at the shop but I didnt like the way it fit. Just didnt look right.
The harness is a universal harness made for a hot rod. I installed the EXACT same kit in my 59 Chevy truck and its awesome. Im not gonna have any amenities so getting down to the nitty gritty is the way to go. The only thing Im gonna use from the stock harness is the connectors at the switches and lights. It was $140 shipped off eBay. Its made by EZ Wiring. Every wire has what its for printed on the wire, nothing to get confused. Install on the 59 was a breeze.

What Radiator did you end up going with?
Its an AFCO Scirocco style radiator. Its a full size so no worries about overheating on the road course. Heres a link to the eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390024782291&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&viewitem=) page. Updates updates!!

Got my radiator in today, super excited. Its actually smaller than I expected and that a good thing. It gives me more room for the intercooler. I ran into a couple snags though. I gotta flip the turbo around the other way for fan clearance. Also gotta move the radiator further forward for wastegate dump tube clearance. Its all good though. I didnt wanna move the intercooler too far out but cooling is more important than being stealth. The second pic is before I oticed the dump tube, itll be about 1/2 inch further forward. I can almost put the t-bar back in but with the radiator farther forward I cant use it anyways, to bad it was a clean t-bar.

I also got the wiring harness today. No pics of it cause it was shipped to the house and didnt feel like bothering with it tonight. Tomorrow for sure though....

I started on the harness. Forgot to take a pic of the fuse box and all. This thing is huge. The headlight harness ALONE is 17 ft long!! I havent unraveled the rear harness yet but Im sure its just as long if not longer. I had to pull a few wires out that arent getting used and reroute some that are in the wrong spot. Coming along well I guess. This is the only real pic I got. The harness will come out of the cowl area into the frame rail and come out the end. It will split to go to one headlight and then to the other side. Should be well tucked :ninja: style

I worked on the harness some more today. I have the whole front harness loomed and ran through the frame rail. I had to reroute it from whats in the pic above but its still hidden pretty well. Youll have to be looking for the harness to find it. The harness I got doesnt have any grounds in it, I have to make them all myself. Time for another trip to Fry's!! Gotta get more loom, a spool of black wire, and some good ring terminals.
I should have the box in its final mounting spot tomorrow. Maybe Ill skip finishing the headlight harness and go ahead ans run the dash harness. I still need to mount the AEM EMS and Twin-Fire boxes. Shit, another set back, yeah...

I got the fuse box mounted and I ran the rear harness. As I was laying it into the car and looking at the wire lengths, I realized the harness doesnt have reverse lights in it. Now to decide if I wanna have reverse lights or just say fuck it. I DO want it to "appear" totally street legal. I dunno, we'll see.

Me too!!! Nah, Ive been busy and too tired to work on it. I still gotta run the wires for the reverse lights and rewire the brake lights. As soon as thats done, Ill have the rear harness loomed and ran. Then the dash/column/ecu wiring....

First is the fuse box location. Its attached to the lower A-pillar right behind the dash.

Second is the harness going through the firewall into the cowl area. This is the front harness for the headlights and whatnot...

Well I spent a good 9 hours on the car again today.
~Got the entire rear harness ran, just dont have the connectors on yet.
~Headlight switch harness finished.
~All but 2 wires ran to the cluster. (Still ned to figure out what cluster Im gonna run so I can get the connector for it. It wont be an EF cluster for sure)
~Fuel pump/sending unit finished and loomed minus ground.
What is killing me is the large gap in time between me working on it. I forget about stuff and have to waste time backtracking the harness.
Only one pic of the wiring cause it still looks like a rats nest, lol...

I also hacked the shit out of the front end. Im going to do custom radiator/intercooler mounts that bolt to the factory bumper beam location. It was the best way to do it. Im doing a double backdoor IC setup so this stuff would have to be cut out anyways. Just will make it easier for me in the future when I wrap things up. I also worked on shaving the firewall. Got the evap canister and fuel filter brackets removed.

I also got my BC Racing BR Type Coilovers in the other day. Happy Days!!! I got them ordered with custom spring rates. 8k front 12k rears. Im also going to order a set of 10k just in case the fronts are too soft or the rears are too stiff. They have 32 way dampening with seperate ride height and preload adjustments. I think I am more eager to feel the suspension than the power of the engine when Im done.

Yeap, sitting in a stack in the corner. One tire is now shot (camber wear) and one rim is curbed. First time in my life I curbed a wheel and it was a fuckin Mugen, fml....

This proves the theory...

Give a Ricer big cams and flat valves with a bullshit timing belt.

He is still a Ricer with 16 bent valves......

Thanks for making me feel better about them John

I worked on the wiring somemore yesterday for about 5 hours. I almost have the rear half of the harness done and the ecu wiring is 80%. Im going in tomorrow to work on it more. The ECU and rear harness should be 100% by the end of the day. Im just soo damn anal about the looming and its killing my time in it.

Well, worked on it for about 8 hours yesterday. I have the Engine harness completely finished minus 6 inches of looming and 1 wire for the wideband input. That wont get hooked up until the dash is in and the gauges are wired up. I finished the Ign and Headlight switch 100%. Also got the AEM Ign box 100%. So all thats left is finish the Headlights, the one taillight, and turn signal/Hazard switch.

I cant believe the wiring is almost done!!!

Oh shit, what did you get NOW?? Youve had about 13 projects in the last 6 months if I counted right.
I might be interested though, I need some time out of this place.

LOL, by bad. I havent really worked on it much lately but I did finish some shit.

All I have left on the entire vehicle harness is the small looming on the engine harness, the headlights, and the dash harness grounds. I got all the turn signals and hazards wired up the other week. Still deciding on the cluster.

Next big task is to start on the fuel system and brake lines. Im converting the car to a non-booster setup with a remote proportioning valve. This will involve a complete replumbing of the brake lines. No big deal really, just more time. Ill be using -3AN stainless line. The fuel system will be -8AN feed and -6AN return. Hardline in car and braided out of the car.

I decided that I will leave out the heat/defroster. Its not like this car will be a daily and when I do drive it in the rain/winter, Ill keep a bottle of Rain-X AntiFog in the glove box. This will save weight and Ill have more room under the dash for the fuel/brake lines and wiring.
