Pop's tranny grinds after like 7500rpm's. Now... this BLOWS considering with the ITR cams and the tune he's eventually gonna get, he will be able to rev it out untill 9k.

So... what are his options? We got syncromesh but havn't put it in his tranny yet, might try that this weekend since im comming back :bump:!!!!!!!!!!

So...

Anyone els have this problem, and what have you dont to fix it?

I know we can always get the tranny rebuilt or buy another tranny and hope for the best, but thats like a $1,000 fix.

Just throw syncro mesh in alot of people say it hurts the tranny but I have seen alot of people use it and it fixed their grind.Never had a problem again,When I first got my car it had regular oil in the tranny, third would grind when the car got to operating temp. And I mean a pretty bad grind I threw one bottle of syncromesh in and grind went away.

Ive heard both good and bad about Synchromesh. Good is, well, its good stuff. Cleans up shifts and whatnot. We used to use it a lot in customers cars. Bad, its not as sticky. Not something you can tell by touching it. Its like the molecular bond it makes with the gears and all isnt as sticky as some of the other stuff.
Redline shock proof is actually some really good stuff. Cost more, but is better all together. 2 quarts of lightweight and 1 quart of heavyweight. Its what John Shepard recommends to run in all his Shepard trannys.
But Ive personally never heard anything bad when using OEM Honda HMT fluid, in a Honda tranny at least.

i would try the synchromesh and see wat happens. if it doesn't fix the problem i would call pacific engines. im going up there this weekend wit some friends and i might pick up one for myself, if u want ill check some prices for u. does he want another B16 tranny or does he want to run something else?

i thin we'll put sum syncromesh in it on saturday and then beat the fuck out of it, see what happends, HAHA

i dont know about b-series tranny,s and which ones are the shortest geared and what not. I know he'd like a b18c5 tranny because some of them came with LSD.

Gear oil, would be a terrible choice. Synchromesh may help, but it's a temporary thing, any fluid will be. Eventually the trans will need to rebuilt, and personally I see no point in replacing it with another used transmission. If you were to go that route though, the shortest geared cable trans is a YS1 from a 92/93 Integra GS-R or 92/93 JDM Integra XSi. LSD was optional on these.

Watch out, EVERY 92/93 cable trans has a YS1 sticker, but most of these are from plain jane B18A Integras with the long gearing. The nice thing though, is that ANY 92/93 YS1 transmission case can accept the newer hydro gears and diffs for a custom gearset of your choice. Switching to a hydro case is a waste imo.

I know the shortest geared tranny is the YS1, 4k rpms at around 70mph in 5th.

last time i checked hmotors had plenty of jdm b16 trannies with lsd or hell if you are going to rebuild it just buy a lsd and stick it in no point in buying a whole new tranny

Alan, that ^ sounds to be a good idea, especially if you dont want to shell out a lot for a new tranny or whatever.... starting with the syncromesh should help out, though it'll probably just bandaid the problem. BUT.... I had reg. oil in mine and I had the 3rd gear grind, replaced it with Honda MTF and I haven't had any problems since.....

Alan, you were mentioning a (B18C5) Type-R tranny for your day; has he converted to hydro or something? Well anyway I have a B16 tranny with slight 3rd gear grind if he wants to buy it, LMK.

Papa_Smurf
01-27-2009, 06:23 PM
nah his is cable im pretty sure, but im sure he'd convert to hydro if he had a guarenteed perfect tranny w/ LSD.

nah, his only grinds going into 3rd too, that'd be kinda pointless. lol

It's not your clutch.

i adjusted it a little and it got better, problem is i need a new clutch cable, when i did my swap i used the crx one and it didnt fit right, so i cut it a little bit on the part that adjust, so now everytime i adjust it it slips off

jfrolang
