If the vehicle does in fact have a diesel, it probably has a particulate filter and some type of catalytic converters to keep the soot down. Diesel combustion also produces a lot of water vapor. Look at a diesel running in subzero temps. and you will see the vapor.

With a chemical formula of C12H26, there is your hydrogen and air has your oxygen to make water naturally. With a cat, you now convert your hydrocarbons left to H2O also.
