I am of the belief that the braves should sign him to a bargain contract and give him a chance. I know he has had his problems, but bargain contract could work out great for the braves

explain to me exactly how a bargain contract works

They sign him to a near minimum contract, and if it works out, he has a bounce back year and hits 20 homers.

I dunno. He's sucked horribly the past few years at the plate and hasn't really been giving his golden gloved effort in the outfield. I think he's tired of playing the game.

I would rather see the Braves keep that extra roster spot open for some of our young talent...

Thats why you sign him to a small one year deal. Yeah, he could blow, but what he if showed up to camp 20 lbs lighter and back in form? then you just stole the 2nd best bat and glove ont he market for maybe 2 mil

No, that's why you sign him to a minor leauge contract, then if he deserves a spot on the roster he gets called up. That's the only way I would want him back on this team.

Well, bottom line, we need another bat or pitcher and the braves are now broke, so small contracts are all we can afford. The braves spent stupidly imo this offseason,so we'll see how i plays out.

Why do you say they're broke? I was under the impression they were still interested in Dunn in the outfield.
How did we spend stupidly? If we would have given the Padres what they wanted for Peavy that would have been stupid. If we would have gotten into a bidding war with the Yankees over Burnett that would be stupid. I wasn't pleased with Frank Wren 2 weeks ago, but he's making moves now and giving us an opportunity to win, withough breaking the bank or emptying our farm system.

A. Braves are rebuilding. WHY IN THE HELL SIGN A 35 year old pitcher? Make NO mistake, the Braves ARE in rebuild mode. Even the reliever they signed is mid 30s. Just stupid to sign ageing players in a rebuilding team with no chance to win big in the immediate future.
B. There are reports that they will not offer another big contract this year because of the signings. Definitly not Adam Dunn. Lack of defense and batting average.

A.) Both of the starters pitched more than 200 innings last season and most seasons they have pitched. Except Lowe, because he started his career as a releiver. Therefore, he has much less stress on his arm than your normal 35 year old SP. The braves are not in rebuild mode. If they wer Chipper, Glavine, Escobar, and a few others would be gone and we would be loaded up on prospects.
B.) Just got done reading AJC and they said that the Braves are content to enter spring training with the outfield the way it is now. But will most likely make a trade/sign in the early part of the year.

Chipper will be what 37 this year i think. If they arent in rebuild mode they should be and if you think otherwise then you dont watch them enough. Arms go down hill fast, talk to the Giants about that with that massive contract they gave Barry Zito.

I watch almost every game of every season since I was like 5. I watch enough. We are not in rebuild mode. Do you even read Braves news?

I'm all for signing him again, but ya, he definitely is going to get paid alot less til he can prove that the last few years decline has been a fluke.

Rofl, like a franchise will admit they are in rebuild mode in this economy. I am a sports management major with a minor in economy. Its all about ticket sells and tickets sell when the team is going for the World Series, or atleast looks like it is trying and not rebuilding.

When you rebuild you let go of your over-priced veteran players in lue of cheaper/younger talent. The braves have not done that. They're not selling off their Big Names for tons of prospects.
I haven't taken any Sports management classes (Especially none on "ticket sells'...lol), but I've been watching baseball/braves for as long as I can remember...Literally.

They NEED to rebuild, that was my point, they shouldnt be signing over the hill pitchers. Chipper is about done, Smoltz is gone, Glavine may not be back, Hudson is out for the year. We have a very young years, and wont compete for atleast 2-3 years.

sign him

They honestly need to trade Chipper now and atleast get something for him.. After the Smoltz debacle I really doubt he will resign with us if he's got the Yankee's and Sox throwing cash his way.

And as for the rebuilding year... They are somewhere in the middle now and it is pissing me off. They didn't resign Smoltz due to them trying to save money, then they go and spend a bunch of money on some other aging pitcher. I'd be fine if they would just stick to there guns and start building for the future, but there recent signings don't hint to that.

Smoltz has already signed with the redsox. I just Think the Braves have made alot of bad decisions this year. To be honest I think they should get rid of the age and just start young.

Thats what I'm saying, they didn't resign Smoltz partially due to his age which fine, if your rebuilding I can understand, but then they go out and sign some players who will most likely be here for maybe 1 or 2 years.. They are doing a half ass rebuild.

Agreed, they are doing it wrong. They need to figure out what they are doing. I would not sign aging players to a rebuilding team.
