keep the outside as stock as you can looking, keep your stock steelies, hell even hub caps too, just get some nice tires, and find an exhaust with a quieter tone and a stock look

get a recirculated bov that has outlet that can accept a tube that can then be routed back to the intake pipe :D

you could use an e cutout and keep the stock exhaust. that way unless you were racing, the sound and look is stock.

weak sounding car equal weak motor. sleeper are for street racing. take it to the track. street race too much and you will be sleeping a big hair dude.

you paint the IC, it might restrict some of the airflow across it.
go with A-L IC and have the tank in the car somewhere.
stock outside, with hubbies, with good tires. stock muffler with e-cutout.

My dad use to tell me when he was street racing in the 80's; To not let people know what you got, Don't tell people what you have, and Don't open your hood.

Here is my attempt building a sleeper.

Yea man I loved it too! But being 16, working at a minimum wage job, I couldn't afford the maintenance on it. Bloody ebay seller claiming the turbo was rebuilt...yea right.

step one get a huge aluminum spoiler
step two get a lot of decals on your car
step three make sure one of those decals is an old biohazard sticker
step four go out on the highway everyone would want to race you haha

haha anyways good luck man, cant u just buy a black intercooler btw

What are you building this in?

My ej is boosted, and its very hard to tell. I completely took my steel bumper off the front of the car. Cut it, and made it fit over top of my IC. My IC mounts in the same area my bumper cover bolts with the 5 screws. Drilled big holes in the first layer then 8mm holes for the bolts. Made my own bottom mounts welded to the car and bolted to the bottom of the IC.

I had to do TRIM work on the inside of my bumper cover, the tabs etc. (the grill is still in there though( that would hit my IC when it was in place. I was trying to avoid any noticeable cutting of the cover, but my charge piping hit the "fog light area" so it had to be removed.

As far as paint, I lightly dusted the IC with trim black, until there was no longer an aluminum finish visible. I powder coated the 2 visible charge pipes black and did not polish them out.

I plan on getting those pipes new when I get a new bumper, and they will be made to fit w/out cutting the bumper.

Sound, well, if you hit full boost your going to hear the waste gate no matter what you do, mine was ran back into the exhaust (for PA emissions). I moved to ohio and ran it atmospheric and it sounds virtually the same.

Blow off valve....Bypass valve.

I did nothing there, i'm running a BOV.

For my exhaust i'm running 2.5" with 2 14" resonators, and a high flow cat before the rear suspension. I cut apart my sock muffler and gutted it and stuffed another resonator inside of it, and welded it all back together. On the end, I threw on a 2.5" chrome tip.

It looks considerably stock, and was a lot of work. Where I live now, cops are anal about imports, so, anything I could do to hide that it had even some performance was worth it to avoid hassle. The car sounds almost completely stock, aside from wastegate at full boost, and bov when it goes off.

The only thing that hints ANYTHING are the 2 pipes up front, if you see them, and of course know what your looking for, the fact that I'm tucking 15" mesh wheels, and because I made my extended top hats to tall, I had to space my hood because I didn't feel like re-doing them lol

I added a cheap ass cell phone pic. Don't mind the body, its not finished yet, or started lol, and I lost the plastic inserts and screws for the front bumper. Had to jack the suspension up some due to this lame ass snow.

Gotcha. I just read about the anodizing link in the other thread, i suggest trying it. I know I'm going to now that I know what it involves.

Port job if just mild is fairly easy if you know what your getting into, water jackets and what not. The more you can get your motor to flow via porting the better, however you can go to far. I suggest doing what I did. Take your exhaust gasket and put it on the head. Mark where its wider than the exhaust ports and only take them that big. Do the same with your manifold. If the gasket holes are bigger a good carbide cutter will even them up. Aside from some grinding up in near the valves that would be about the best I would suggest doing (That is if you've never ported a motor before)

Friend of mine with an EK hatch is running a backdoor IC, a stock one from an SRT4. It fits VERY good, with minimal mods. Its also incredibly hard to see as well. His bumper is not cut at all.

I love that EF Sleeper sedan. There was a post about an EF hatch a while back i believe on HT, it had a b-series I dont recall the specs boost etc.., I know it had HX wheels with hub caps on it though lol.

Good luck!

there is an easy fix without painting your intecooler, it's going to run you aa little more than a front mount though, pm mushroom_toy, he has my old PWR liquid to air intercooler, simply put it in the piping and run a meth/water mix thru it to freeze it over, i guarantee your air going into the motor will be colder than if you were to use a front mount, and nobody will see it. you will need the pwr liquid to air intercooler, some sort of pump to circulate liquid through it, and a tank to hold the water/meth mix.

All I can think of is to paint your intercooler black and just pretty much keep the car stock looking.

My car is boosted and it looks like a sleeper...I think:ninja:

send it to Millers to anodized your fmic black.. Don't spray paint it...

Spray paint is fine. People have been doing it forever and it has almost no effect on the IC's performance. A light coat just enough to cover the aluminum is all you need. Reroute your WG into your downpipe. Put a stock exhaust on it with an E-cutout after the downpipe. Bypass valves rerouted instead of BOV's are usually a little quieter.

I think another good way of making the boosted car a little bit more of a sleeper happens to come from the European family of stock boosted cars lol, instead of putting a blowoff valve on a car, they put on recirculation valves i think is what they're called? They re-route that air from the BOV that would normally make that loud woosh noise into the atmosphere and put it quietly back into the system to be re-used.

what about just running a resonator and a muffler?

Bus Driver J

Just about everyone has picked upon the good answers.

~Recirculating valve (reroute BOV to intake)
~Reroute wastegate into exhaust
~Paint I/C with black radiator paint. It wont restrict airflow as normal paint can, very little difference but its the better choice if painting it
~Stay with a thinner I/C, this means less of your bumper will be cut.
~You can run an Air to Water I/C. Issue with it is getting an electric water pump and then a reservoir for it. Then all the water adds weight (not that much but weight is weight)
~Running extra resonators will quiet the exhaust (you can make a 3" exh quiet with the right resonators and muffler)

Im sure there are others and most have ben seaid already, just breaking them down.

Hmm. I've got a street sweeper, sleeper thats been running around for years. In addition to the tips already listed, here are a few more....

Hide gauges in dash. I've got my gauges hidden below ships in the glove compartment. Very stealthy, if a little difficult to wire up.

Change badges. Easy enough.

Re-route your wastegate pipe if running external. You can have it re-circ back into your exhaust the same way you do your CBV.

Downturns. You can easily disguise a full 3" exhaust by using a downturn at the rear. By having the exhaust pipe shoot downwards, most will be hard pressed to tell what size your exhaust is. Also, spray it black. I like to use grill paint (you can find it at home depot) to paint the exhaust. Resists heat well and is cheap.

Finally, if you want a truly stock look, you can always keep the stock exhaust and simply invest in an electronic cut-out. ATP turbo stocks them.

Mod something that most won't suspect......There are tons of cars out there that can be turbo'd beyond the typical honda, mitsubishi or subaru that can go very fast. I had to start making my car look more modded because half the time people wouldn't take me seriously, just because it was so unassuming.
