Autoblog.....

With the NSX successor officially cancelled, Honda tapped long-time motorsports partner Mugen to create a one-off coupe to commemorate the everyday supercar that ended production in 2005. The Mugen NSX RR is stretched to 177.95 inches (almost four inches more than the '94-05 model), and widened by 5.5 inches and features a combination of carbon fiber and aluminum body panels. In addition to a set of upgrade brakes, GT-style body kit, wing, hood-scoop and diffusers,

the 3.0-liter V6 has been swapped out in favor of a supercharged 2.4-liter V6 mated to a revised six-speed manual gearbox. Mugen hasn't released any power figures, but informed speculation pegs output between 350 and 380 hp.

Edit. This is misinformation. The 2.4 was in an Accord parked next to the NSX at the show. Autoblog :slap: Check here, Clearly says C32 off of Mugen's own site.

While it's highly-doubtful that Honda or Mugen will sell the NSX RR in the States, there's a good chance that the tuning firm will acquire some low-mileage NSX-Rs in Japan to produce a limited run of the RR, similar to the NISMO R34 GT-R Z-Tune Nissan produced at the end of the Skyline's production run.

I guess...those fins on the front finders. Or the rear wing that's attached to where the old integrated wing used to be. Or the rear amber signals that seemed to be randomly penciled in so it can differ from the original (I know, Honda did this when they "updated" the NSX a couple years ago). Or the single intake port (I guess it's suppose to relate to Honda's F1 venture) but it just doesn't look NSX.

Don't get me wrong...I fell in love the the 90's, my fav the 97 NSX-T. It's a classic car designed in the 80's. I still remember when I saw the lines in Road and Track many moons ago and thought to myself... it's subtle and sleek, perfect. Now, all I see is a old canvas with babbles and bolts that ruins the original masterpiece.

Ugly...but to each their own.

No.

The scoop is what the NSX is allowed for aspiration in the GT500 JGTC class.

The body lines on the RR are meant to mimic the silhouette lines of the GT500 race car.

Is it ugly as a street car? That's up to whoever you ask.

Is it stupid Honda and Mugen use an unfunctional scoop on a street car? Yes.

and you drive a firebird?
intentional irony:thinking:

I think they tried to make it look semi radical while giving all of the wild panels as much functionality as possible.
I don't think all of these pieces were just randomly drawn out and slapped on visual appeal.

Like I said before...I'm sure it's an awesome car. I just hate seeing, what I feel was a perfect car in it's -original- form, be aesthetically challenged.

All of this is my OPINION. You can argue with me all you want...it's ugly to me. You can't change my mind about it...just as I can't change your mind about anything either...you feel a certain way just as I do. It's why we share our thoughts. As before, to each their own. Please quote everything I say if you intend to.

My car isn't the center of discussion btw. Stick to the subject...my ride isn't as entertaining to discuss anyway.

Those random lines, swoops, fins, and bulges are functional pieces. Aerodynamics :goodjob:

As for the scoop not being functional, that sucks... :gay:

Oh a brand new concept? Hah I was about to say...I don't think I've seen any NSX that looked like this.

I'm not a fan of the big scoops and wings...since it's a concept I don't know if it's just style or if there's functionality behind them (I'm sure there is) but I do like the idea of the car. I really will miss the NSX.

Made an important change to the OP. It is also why i haven't commented on whether that is a real vertical placement of the C32B.

Are you sure it would be non functinoal? The side scoop have been shaved so it appears this is the new air source for whatever those fed (IDK the structure of the NSX but I'm guessing side radiators, maybe an oil cooler, or brake ducts?)

Good point you bring up on the lack of side openings. When i saw the RR for the first time, it reminded me off the Honda version a few years back in which it was obviously not feeding air into the engine.

It is still not 100% necessary though as in a proper race car, those intakes provide a direct ram air into the intake chambers through some sort of tunnel. In the 3500cc NSX engine, there are no restrictors in the intakes so you don't see little funnels in the actual intake.

Something like this. (I used an F3 engine as an example)
http://todaracingusa.com/UserFiles/Image/techno_F3engine_HONDA.jpg

I'm sure there are better ways to aspirate that engine without needing a "mock" scoop. I can find a pic of a 2008 spec car with the rear body work off to see how it aspirates this.

I think a better version of a Super GT replica would look like this...

dam.. oh well there went my honda excitement..

Im still trying to figure if the longer wheelbase is due to the engine being placed vertically like every proper NSX race car has been.

Car is sweet. Lose the snorkel though.

Side openings usually lead to radiators and intercoolers, the source of intake for the engine would be the snorkel, that's what would make sense anyways.

Must be the case but it can be the most effiecent way if it isn't routed directly into the intakes.
