If you growing up means letting go of your del sol...sure. Do it. Just remember spring is around the corner and sure you have a moonroof on your lexus, but it aint the same as a targa top...

Why cant you have both? I dont understand???

QD does both. Bootedb16 does both. You can do both, you just have to be realistic with it.

We've had this talk a few times homie, on a lighter scale of course. Tell ya the truth, selling my hatch and buying the S was probably the best thing I could of done. It helped pay off a lot of my debt and it's still a fun car to drive, even if it is completely stock. Sure, I MIGHT do mods later on the down road, but nothing for the time being.

Don't get me wrong, I miss going to a meet and stuntin', but it's something I can live with. I guarantee you that if I still had my hatch, I would be in either the same situation I was in last year or maybe even worst, as far as debt goes. I bought SOOOOOOOO many parts for that damn thing, to never even put them on and have to sell them at half the price for BRAND NEW parts. Shit broke my wallet like crazy. Now I just drive, and i'll damn sure be more cautious as to what parts I buy, if any at all. I tell ya, if I still had the hatch I wouldn't of thought twice to dump $1500 for some CP-R's. Now, I can't even justify spending $850 to slam the S, hah. :goodjob:

Exactly. Shit I got my tax returns last year, a GOOD chunk of change, and I spent it ALLLLLL on parts, parts that I don't even have to show for, whether it be the car they were for, or in selling them and getting my money back. You think i'm a do that with my tax returns this year?? SHIIIIIIIIIIT NO!! I might get bit by the modding bug again later on, say for IA this year :D But you better believe it won't be anything ridiculous, if anything at all. I'd rather spend the money on something else. Now if I was made of money, of course everything would be totally different  But shit man, i'm tryin to do other things in '09

I cant justify 2 things on your car and those are the mudflaps and the beaks bar. But your money, your car, your decisions. I dont seriously dont see what the problem is... I mean unless you and Keish are preggos now...

thats why you dont use credit card. budget your money and then do little at a time. what hurt people the most is they try to get it all done at one time. i use my car to help with stress. but i guess its diff for everyone.

Hah, and your car shows it. Not tryin to be a dick, ya know. But let's be honest, not all of us make money like that where we can afford to pay for Premium parts cash, and to some of us, Real Deal parts matter.

Also, I just hating having that as my DD, always having to pay attention to any and everything. And if something did go wrong, how the hell are you supposed to get to work or/and school?

I cannot tell you how many times ol girl and i have gone around and around with this one Kashime. It came to a point last fall where i was a handshake away from buying my beloved LR3 and just being done with cars and sticking to airplanes and my job.

however...

the turning point for me was when i caught myself looking online at all the sweet parts you can put on a Rover to make it an offoroad monster... it was then i realized that I'll always want to tinker with these stupid things [cars/trucks/airplanes] and that i didn't know much about Landrovers. If it were to break sure, there's a warranty and service places... BUT that would keep me from getting to a job on time which could possibly cost me business.

I decided to keep the Civic as my main mode of transportation because it's reliable (for the most part); and when it's not, i can fall back on my knowledge of the car to fix it quickly (cheap) and continue on my way.

You can't go wrong keeping the car around man. It's paid for, it runs, and you'd regret selling it if you did as it would be "that car" you talk about for the rest of your life. It boils down to self control and prioritizing. Can you keep the car around without blowing your money on parts that aren't necessary? - yes - you can.

Hit me up if you want to discuss futher bro :goodjob:

K, I for one have been brought up in a fam, of strong values and family comes first, and i admire you for wanting to drop the sol for a family, takes alot of maturity to consider something that i know you put your blood sweat and tears in. And it is good to grow up, but the way i see it (or for me atleast) i have recently lost a good bit of income, meaning growing up moving out of my rents, girl going to college, and it sucked for like the first 2 months, but its like ive always said, if there is something i want, then ill save up for it, even if its 5 bucks a week eventually you will get there.

So one side of it is, you could take the budget ballin down a notch, leave the car alone, just drive it out once in a while, it still looks great, im guessing paid for. and then when you get in a finicial state where you can both have a family, and play with the car, then you have it waiting on you.

But the other is if you do have debt, bills, ect to pay for, then i would say sell the car, cause you get always just get another when you are ready.

i know im not very helpful, but any "car guy" is gonna tinker with something and you will find something to mess around with, rather it be a pimp ass del sol, or your kids tonka truck, it will be something, so i say keep the car, maybe sell a few parts here and there, and just make the family first and car second.

Just balance out what your doing. If you truly have a passion for something then by all means do it. Personally I love a rare set of wheels and a nice stance on my street car. All my cars will have this and I couldn't imagine rolling around without a car like that. It's like a necessity for me. If family is a priority then my desire for crazy engine parts and what not would be put on the shelf for the future. Even though I want that stuff I can always hold on to the money I have for other things that might come up (buisness opportunities etc to make more money), and not my hopes and desires to do more and more to my car.
Keep in mind, to get rich you have to invest your money in many places. Don't just keep dumping it into something that returns only emotional/sentimental satisfaction.
If I had boosted my car awhile ago I wouldn't of made near the money I did when I was 18 buying and seeing expensive parts for profit, nor would I have had the opportunities to invest in other things that I made money off of. I would've had a sick car, but the doors would've been closed for making more money until I could save up more money from work (which would've been hard as the expense to keep a 550whp car is somewhat high). The end result by not spending all that money was simply tons of cash after several months. By the time I was ready for college I had nearly $8,000 from investments, buying parts and flipping them and selling things for people I met along the way. On top of that I was making $300-500 a week working at my brothers restaurant. At that age I could literally do whatever a teenager could imagine, and I still had a relatively nice car, with a nice drop and BBS wheels I purchased long ago. Nothing crazy, but still got lots of compliments. There is no better feeling then being satisfied with what you have and having enough freedom to do what you wish, and enough cash to invest and make more as opportunities arise. Put a leash on your desires for your car, get what makes you happy (wheels, drop, maybe nice speakers and some bolt on's) and hold on to your money and watch it grow. I guarantee you you'll be more satisfied when that bank account is higher than it's ever been and you still have a clean, not over the top car.
Learn from me too. I just spent all of my money to build my dream car (my S54B32 E36 M3 project) and I regret it. Sure I still have enough money to go out and do almost what I want (i.e go out drinking, out to eat etc. etc), and i'll have my dream set up but i'm living cheaply and I calculated had I not spent 5 k on the motor, + 3k on all the performance parts my original $8,500 would've been around $12,000 by now with the investment opportunities I missed out on and my car would've still been very cool how it was. By the end of next summer I would've had nearly $20,000 as a full time student working part time at the rate I was making money previously. Sure my S52 M3 would've had 165,000 on it but it would still look damn good and run mid 13's. That and this huge pile of money that was growing and growing would've been way cooler than an 8500rpm 340whp N/A M3 and only enough money to get by.

I mean, it's not like you'll instantly don a business suit and start smoking expensive cigars once the sol is gone. "Grown up" is what you make of it. If you love the car then keep it man. You have the lexus, and I remember you having a Cherokee right? I think we all need the fun of our cars, I know sometimes it keeps me grounded just going for a drive because I LOVE my car. I'm sure you do too. The Honda community is becoming rather childish but you gotta do what ya do son. No car will ever negatively effect your life unless it's a DSM(lawl).

If you dnt want the car just say it. U already have plans on putting money into the lexus so if u get rid of the del slo ur gonn aspend money on the lexus bc cars is in ur blood. ull be doing something to whatever u drive.

Growing up mean getting ur priorities straight and putting cars on hold unitl u can afford to do more to it. If u want a family and family things, the car stuff will have to wait. Who knows u might strike a good job in the near furture and be able to do both. I got a dog, 3 cars, and an empty ass apt. Im not rich but im not broke. You can be like me kiddo, u just have to make grown up decisions like i do.

my girl always ask me the same question "when you going to stop with the cars?". i really dont see what the problem is its something i love and i can get away from shit and work on my car... i say keep the car you can still have a family.

But this dude has a family to take care of. Not just a girl. It's a big difference.

DO. You know this old Civic of mine has really just popped on the scene, right? I've been on here for some time now without posting picks and updates and all to that car...or any car. I've had that CVCC since September of 2006. And you guys are just now seeing it. It took me 2 1/2 years to just get an engine in it to run. That's all because I have my family to feed, clothe and put a roof over. You don't have to let go of something you love to do what you need to do. You can set it to the side for a minute. The reason my car is just now really coming out is because I really just started making the money I make now. Plus I don't have a house or car note.

And who says you have to keep dumping money into it? Can you not be satisfied with how it sits now? I would be if that car were mine. After this paint on my CVCC, I need floor carpet and the stereo situation done and that's it. Strictly maintenance and driving for me on that. Now if keeping the car does cause temptations to want to add to it and force your hand into slacking off on first priorities then, by all means, unload that thing.

I think you're in the process of "growing up" right now by having these thoughts in your head. You know what's right and what's wrong. You know where your priorities lie. I have my proof of that.

To come to an end, you don't have to give up your car to grow up. And in that sense, you don't have to completely grow up to know your role and responsibilities as a husband and Dad and then....an enthusiast.

Later, QD.

Hahah yeah. Part of me says it's dumb but another part of me says i'm suppose to be poor in college. That second part of me is the dumb part of me hah.. The sad thing is spending all this money is just leading me to spend more. Gotta build a rear end, gotta get that carbon intake and go with the best exhaust possible etc.. It's overwhelming to know that I spent everything I had but once i'm finished i'll have something i've dreamed up. I'd suggest everyone to get what makes you satisfied and leave it!! Don't start messing around so much with something that won't give you your money back until your spendings are fractions of your total savings..
Your so right though and i'm thankful that I learned this now as I tell people "I will NEVER spend all my money on something sentimental like this ever again." It was an impulse decision that I didn't really regret until months later. It's almost heartbraking to see opportunties come up and disappear because I don't have the $$ to move forward with it and make some money in the end. I already saw two deals go by where I could've easily make 1k each without a sweat and how cool would it have been to have money coming out of college to put a down payment on a house with....oh well.

Haha yeah I will most def. come up there, I enjoyed that Barrett meet, the thing is I live in Baton Rouge during the school year but i'll most def. be coming up there when i'm in town.

Why cant you have both? I dont understand???

QD does both. Bootedb16 does both. You can do both, you just have to be realistic with it.You can have both, you just gotta be smart about it like QD has already said. I have a house, wife, three kids and two dogs. The motor just popped in my car, I have a DD and the wife has the mini-van. So the car goes to back-burner until later this year when money is a little better. Only sell the Honda if you are truely sick of it. I sold my CRX and have regretted it since.

OMG the responses to this thread are pretty overwhelming and to be honest quite heart warming. i didnt expect this. i kinda wanna tear up here.

thank you guys for the encouragement and pretty much being in one accord.

Jonathan wrote word for word what Joselyn said to me on the phone about her father regretting his decision in selling "THAT" car. i dont think i would be able to deal with that. especially since most people i know that sell their prized vehicles eventually are wrecked by the new owners or stolen. id hate for that to happen to this car that ive been up and down many roads in.

Thank you Mike and Jason for your input. it means A LOT! http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j261/Knonimous/GIFs/hugkiss.gif

I'm gonna give you some tough love here. Hike your pants up and keep your car....stop being a pansy. Well....you are allowed to be a pansy if you are selling the car to me for $1 whole dollar. Do that and you can pansify yourself all day. Other than that, if you need further encouragement, when you come to take photos of my car, I will bitch slap you across the teeth so that you will get all Rocky like and macho yourself out by driving home really fast and remembering why you love your car.

YEA!!!!!
