anyone had bad experiences with them?
my freind has 2 12" p3 2 ohms in his truck. he's had them a few months and they already cracked. the rubber stuff around the magnet ripped. just wondering what could cause this.

So is teh woofer cone cracked? if so the P1.p2, and P3 cones are very fragile and if anything hits it while its playing it will crack super easy. I dont know why fosgate made their entry subs so cheap. But its a common problem

I've seen that happen a couple times. Plus no RF system I've ever heard sounded all that great.

Because all those are their entry line and they're really $25 woofers. The only subs they make worth buying is the t2

the t1's are nice and ther team RF power's are sick, ive heard a few rockforg systems that aound pretty good its just most average customers is gonna buy 2 p3's a 500.1 and think there cars is the sh*T, they arent gonna buy a rockford source unit with no internal amp and pre-out only, a rf 360.2 signal processor or the only Symmetry EXP, fanatic Q components etc so what u put in is what you get out.

fosgate has gone down eversince they became a streamline industry product and you can buy at bestbuy, fleemarket, circuit city... etc. i believe that they changed there production plant a little bit ago from america to mexico for lower production cost. and also... i just dont really like there p series subs or any of theres at all. the only one that i have been impressed by was the old school fosgate HX2. that sub is bad ass

Im not a huge fan of the P1s. They are what they are....an entry level sub.
The P2s are (IMO) a very good woofer at the price they are sold for.
The P3s are good.
T1s are a probably my favorite of all of their subs. T2s are nice, but out of the price range for most...especially when you factor in amplifier power needed, wiring, etc. I like them....just not for everyone.
We have sold and installed a bunch of Rockford at the shop, and have been happy with it.

Rockford still makes great stuff IMO, back in the day they were good and then went down hill when they started selling to Best Buy, they had a span of roughly 5 years where they were buying amps from Korea and as stated during that period they were not the Rockford they were 10-15 years ago, but a few years ago they started making their amps back in the USA their quality has risen back to what it was 10-15 years ago IMO even better.
The HX2 was a great sub I had 4 of them in a wall in an Accord however during the time frame of production of those subs is also when VT boxes and ported boxes of that style were becoming popular and now all of the manufacturers are making subs once again that will actually do what they are supposed to do in a box that you can fit in most cars and a lot less airspace, now obviously you can still use big ported boxes with the new subs, but my point is that if you were to take the HX2 and put it in an average sized sealed box and compare it to it's equivalent of today a T1 it is not going to keep up.
Also as someone else has stated that Rockford is being sold by Best Buy and a lot of the big box stores now days, well with any brand out there that anyone could chose if it is not installed properly, gains not set properly, box style and size chosen correctly for the customers personal liking and taste then it will not sound as good as it could, and this is exactly the reason why the big box can not get the power series equipment, so that they can preserve that reputation.
I agree with someone else that the P1 are pretty much just garbage and sound more like a mid bass, however anything from the P2 and up I think is great and comparable or better than almost anything else on the market at their respective price points. As for the amps their are still people today using Rockford Power series for competing in SQ so they can't be too bad.
To answer the original question I would have to say that something probably hit the cone of the woofer, at the shop we have subs open and all over the shop and people always insist on playing with them and pushing on them and tapping them and what ever else they can do to finger fuck them and in the past two years I have only seen one of them crack.

best buy has sold RF since forever way before the HX2's were even made, they even sold the power series in the mid 90's at best buy for a short period of time like the power 800a2 and the 1100a2 and the punch power DVC subs so your comment about them sucking because they avaliable to the masses hold no weight IMO

I'm sorry to hear that some of their product has gone down hill, the last I worked with their product, it was excellent (around 2000). I could see a movement towards some cheaper material, they had started Lightning Audio and I always thought that was going to be the route that Best Buy and the big boxes were going to take, a route with a decent name but with lesser quality materials.
I used to always recommend using a Fosgate subs as a replacement for when a customer would blow a Pioneer or Bazooka speaker too many times, they were my solution to a customer who was too abusive. Like I said, I'm sad that they've fallen off on their entry level line.

fosgate used to be the best audio stuff back in the day, as far as amps go. The use to have the only true watt amps on the market. I don't know much about them now.

they still make good ass amps. they are still putting out a lot more power than they claim. there subs are good too but there punch series is like every other entry level sub they are not that great and there not the worst either.
