Well I have had this Norinco for quite some time. I have always hated the factory grips. I had a set of Hogue 1911 grips laying around and decided I was going to make them work some way or another. I used a 9/64 drill bit and a 8FN tap. I used some 8/32 FN screws to hold them in place. I had to shorten the grips a little and cut them down near the slide stop. Let me know what you think.

Now on to the Mauser project. I just got this a couple of days ago. I decided a while back that I wanted to build a neat little mauser project. It was already a little sporterized but I decided to take it a little further. I dont wanna hear any of that you ruined the gun crap. I did what I wanted to do. I shortened the barrel 3". I polished the bolt and some of the internals. I sanded down and restained the stock. I have not cleared it yet. Tru oil hasnt come in. I took off the rear sight post completely. I painted the barrel with gloss black high temp paint. Once my duracoat kit comes in I will be working on that. It has a monte carlo stock on it. Let me know what you think.

appreciate it. I ended up cutting the fore end of the stock down some more. I also put together a nice little kimber mauser. I am also in the middle of working on a nice 1911 conceal carry with all wilson combat internals and a 10" ar CQB weapon.

I decided not to buy the colt officer instead i bought the High standard crusader. the crusader has alot of options from the factory (the company that imports them buys there internals from brownells as a kit) its a great shooter out of the box. my main reason for this is that i can sell all the "new" components to one of my referal customers and make half of my money back to make a match barrel. anywho.. I do not know which direction to go with the ar right now. I have a custom made 5.5" flash hider to make my weapon 16" atf complied. anywho.. i am thinking of just rocking my suppressor on it and changing it out if the dnr shows up. i mean seriously, how many people have actually had there serial numbers run to see if they are pistol uppers, sbr uppers, or rifled uppers. Anywho..

probably not many people get caught. But i think the consequences out weight the risk. just pay the 200$ (or whatever it is) SBR tax and dont put one of those silly 5.5" flash suppressors on it. :)

Yes i am going to attempt a dehorn, using a little bit of filing, stoning and cratex wheels.

as far as the tools:

- 8" half round file
- 8" pilar file #0 swiss
- .220" radius beaver tail jig
- trigger track stone
- 6"x1"x1" fine india stone (for stoning primiary and relife angles on the sear
- marvell sear jig
- brownells trigger stirrup die
- cratex wheels

this is what i have/am getting this week to get me rolling. Will be in addition to my dremel and other 'normal' tools.

when i get around to doing fire control i may need to get a hammer jig, i have to look into that a bit more.

also, what do u think of this. i am thinking of measuring the diameter of the hammer and sear pins, and finding a supplier. I would buy longer version, half inch or so wider than the frame. That way you could put them through the frame like normal but would stick out the side, so you could drop the sear and hammer on them and inspect the alignment for safety and function. Considering you obviously cant see them inside the frame. They sell jigs for it, but they are like 80 bucks. What ya think?

I had a stubby for a while, no reason to cut though IMO. I have been extremely busy over the last couple of days. Danny please call me john, Although I am almost six and a half feet tall and 240lbs the giant thing tends to get old, haha.

The dehorn looks good. I might have to send mine up to you to do it for me, haha. I still have not received my new CCW yet. I am getting impatient with the seller in AZ.

As far as grouping. If you cant shoot any better than 3" with a pistol at 25yds something is wrong. Anyone can shoot sub MOA with a rifle and a bipod practically. But not everyone can shoot, move, and communicate. Target acquisition, assessing the situation, engaging, maintain distance, find cover, and either assault or exfil takes alot of skill, practice, and planning.

I did almost 15 months as an infantryman in Iraq and have attended several military schools. You will never stop learning. I am even contemplating taking a carbine course this year because I am sure I will pick something up *plus i can add it to my resume when i get out* . Every time I get behind a weapon it is a training session/ learning experience. Setting up real life situations at a range with make shift targets is what its all about. It takes alot of prep work, attention to detail, and discipline urban combat. The average person who owns a weapon does not even know how to do a functions test on that weapon.

It scares me everytime I see someone at a range lay there weapon down pointed towards me. Everytime I see a bunch of hoodlums blasting away with no regard for others. I wish I had the resources to fund a range down here. When I move back up to dahlonega/ visit I will invite a select few up to do some shooting.

As for smithing, I am no pro. I learn as i go. That is why I have my shooters *high quality guns* and my tinkers*smith projects*. I am on a military budget and cannot afford to screw up a 1400 rifle just to learn. I will mess with a 200 mauser though.

Danny the dehorn looks good. Once my frame comes in and I get my parts fit and finished. I will ship it to you to do a custom danny dehorn, haha. Let me know the price. Are you planning on cold blueing it when your finished? I am in the process of getting my local smith working a deal on front cocking serrations. I am going to hold off on the SBR tax and rock my suppressor for now. Its an easy way around the SBR tax because they cannot prove the barrel is less than 16" as long as I keep it attached. I took it all out and did some field testing a couple of days ago. I am getting my uppers from a company that just picked up a new distributor. There uppers are quality for the price and offer neat things some of the big name guys dont. Once I get it all done I will get photos up. I am also stock piling ammo for my website sales. I am also building several target stands to start setting up shooting sessions at the local range during the week.

As for the mauser question its a 98. I grouped 1.5" at 100yds with factory ammo. I am sure I could dial it in with a better bullet selection but for what I am using it for it works great. Cheap little hog/deer/armadillo blaster.

I picked up a SIG PRO 2340 and ordered a 357 barrel. I am going to be trying build a couple of small custom peices for it. Its a neat little pistol for the price. I broke out the dremel and poliishing gear and got the trigger/slide smooter.

I am working in partnership with a local machine shop about getting some flash hiders made for the ar chassis. I am also getting custom charging handles, faux suppressors, and sling mounts. Once all these projects are done the website will go online. I have my meeting with planning and zoning in a couple of weeks to see about the home business office liscense. I hope all goes well. I would like to have everything done and my stock of goodies by the end of march.

I will be selling ammo, about 15 ar parts, two uppers with my logo, small 1911 parts, used GI parts, magazines, and target accessories. I dont plan on having more than about 50 parts to start with not including ammo. The ammo side of the house will be my major stock of stuff. I will be attending all gun shows and looking online to get as much bulk ammo as possible.

So anywho.. I am going to bed. Glad to see the updates and the birth of IA's soon to be record length gun thread, haha.

I don't want to get into a pissing contest with ya, but not everyone has what it takes to get sub MOA groups at distance, sure, if you can't get tight patterns at 100-200 you suck balls, but past that shit gets tricky, I'm a long time distance shooter, i'll probably have a tighter group at 600 than most would at 200. Not to mention i could zero it myself just using my scope, wind direction, and a calculator.

and holding 3" at 25 yards with a pistol ain't as easy as you're making it out to be.

as far as grouping i honestly havent done a 25yd session to see what i do. We did do the "so you think you can shoot" drill, its 10 seperate shots from the holster at 50yds. You have 2 seconds to make the shot from the time the instructor yells contact. I can tell u i suck at that, but was probably top 2 or 3 in the class (up there with the two guys who have dozens of tactical classes under thier belt).

John, please put me on the guest list for dalanga shooting, it sounds awesome. I dont have the resources locally to setup tactical drills. I am stuck with static drills at my range, and practicing tac reloads, speed reloads, malfunction drills at home :(

Darwin, i am sure its safe to assume john meant shooting moa at closer ranges is doable for the average person. We all know shooting moa at say 800+ isnt a skill set most people have. Oh and yes he did make shooting 3" at 25yds sound a little easy, now im worried i cant do it :( lol

So.. I have been watching all these retarded stupid idiotic pricing on ar's and decided I was going to build one of my own. My big turn off with the AR platform is that I am in the military. I am an infantryman. I use one of these probably 250 out of 365 days a year. I have carried one everyday for 15 months in Iraq. THEY BORE ME! I saw a possibility to build a neat little rifle and then, well.. sell it.

I have used a variety of good quality parts from different manufacturers to build it up. Spikes Tactical, RRA, Magpul, Matech, etc.. Here are some misc. pics of what has come in so far. I am still waiting on getting some stuff in the mail. We shall see what happens so far. Today I built the lower.

IT IS SO EASY TO DO! Do not pay the extra money to have someone build you one. Unless its the extra 10 dollars to spikes for them to build it. Def. better to spend the 10 and not deal with those dang pivot pin detents. Once all the goods come in I will keep some pics posted up.

ON TO THE REASON OF THIS THREAD!!!!!

I purchased a High Standard Crusader 1911. I purchased this pistol because it comes with alot of neat features that the standard HS and RIA come with. Its a great out of the box shooter. I wanted to make a couple of subtle changes to have a great ALL STEEL CCW.
I ordered all kinds of stuff but its all from WILSON COMBAT. I have ordered there stuff before and never had any problems. With all there stuff I expect to have to do a little of smithing. I broke out the tool box and a couple of punches and files. I broke the entire pistol down. The only thing that I could not get to work *or should i say before i almost broke this dang thing* is the extended magazine button and the sear. I have never had a problem with there sears. EVER! It doesnt have a relief cut in it for the saftey. It will not work. I am going to run over to the machine shop tomorrow and have them fix it but i am Edited to Remove Profanity ----Edited to Remove Profanity ----Edited to Remove Profanity ----Edited to Remove Profanity ----Edited to Remove Profanity ----Edited to Remove Profanity ----. With the mag button it just needs way to much material taken off to get it to work. I will take it to the shop as well but i dont think i will be able to use it. With that being said. Everything else works great. The trigger is crisp with what little work i did to it. I installed a set of Desert warrior grips in black. It handles well, and tomorrow after i get all the little peices fixed I will be taking it to the range to start with the shoosting! I have 6 different boxes of JHP to start with . I will be shooting different groups and changing out with different springs to find out what works and what doesnt.

Ok.. Ok.. I guess some explaining is in order. You didnt say ransom rest, prone, standing, stance style, etc.. on the pistol shooting. From a ransom rest or even from any kind of sturdy rest a well put together 1911 and some trigger practice should have you grouping that in no time. As far as standing with a plain weaver stance. I cannot do it. I am not going to lie. I just plain cannot. I can engage targets on the move from 25 meters and still group consistantly.

As far as long distance shooting. I meant anything under 300 meters. With a cheap scope and a factory loaded rifle most people can shoot groups *depending on the external factors* all day long.

With that being said, most people cannot hit shit past 300 meters. They dont take into account alot of the stuff that is standard under 300. I am not the best shooter in the world. I would consider myself average to maybe slightly above average. The one thing I am good at is shooting in tactical situations and being able to shoot and move.

thats basically what my springfield is going through. I am keeping the frame, slide, barrel and barrel link. The rest is going out the door. This isnt going to be a race gun. THis is going to be a tactical purposed gun.

I installed my YHM mid length rail on it today. Now I have to decide if I want the suppressor on it or the phantom. Either way it looks sick . Now I am only waiting for my mil spec tube and thin locking rings to come in and its off to the range for more testing.

Here is a parts list for those interested.

Of course there are some tools involved and those are my prices minus shipping roughly. It is alot more solid and cleaner fit and finish than the utg ones. These come with a completely new locking ring so you remove the spring d ring from the barrel completely.

Anywho.. I have a flip up front and rear sight i am waiting on. I have my spikes heavy buffer and trigger guard just came in a minute ago. I should have fully completed pics in a couple of days. I can install all this stuff for whoever needs it. I can put lowers together, uppers, bolt carrier groups, etc..

I have several other cases that is just the one i use to tote around when i am in the z. the others are to big to fit, haha. anywho.. i only see one pic.

I am not a big fan of rails on pistols but i have heard good things about the dawson rails.

my thoughts exactly. I too am not a huge fan of rails. But this gun is a purpose built gun thats going to get run hard and used alot so it needs a rail (as it will also be my HD gun). Right now i just have a surefire 6p defender that is always parked next to my gun, but i can easily see knocking that outa reach when SHTF. I would prefer to have a weapon light and a handheld. I am leaning towards the dawson rail, due to its size. I am sure i could fit and a dehorn it nicly to fit the overall feel and look of the gun. The novak is just huge.

Also, while on topic of surefire... have you got an account with them yet? I need to order a new carry light, my 6P defender is a little big for everyday carry.

Update! Got a few more parts in. After hella shaving on the MOE stock I got it to fit. It wont budge at the moment but it fits. Ordered another $80 in tools and misc today. Sold 1500 rounds of M855 online so business is good!

sear spring is supposed to have alot to do with pull weight of a trigger. It must be tuned properly, like all 1911 parts. But according to the browells trigger job article it has a great deal of effect.

can you link me to the file set you got, im interested whats all included. Looks like ur stockin up nicley. I was serious about the ammo.. get to me about it...

I gotta put an order in with brownells. Got a course on the 28th of april i gotta be ready for. I will be using the 1911 for this.

With that being said... It is almost all put together. Here are some more pics of some tools and such that I got in.

DANNY - With my experience on sear springs. I have tried several springs from several companies. Some claim stuff others do not. I am not convinced that one is better than another. I have filed triggers, sears, disconnectors, etc.. and the one thing that always seems consisten is the sear spring. Of course.. this is my opinion. The best one that I have felt or should I say that has made a difference is Ed Browns Sear spring. It is made of a little different material and its fit and finish feels cleaner than most of the others.

With that being said.. there pricey and what not. The files pictured are round files that I didnt pay much for. I have some flat files from other projects. Anywho.. I hope you enjoy the porn.. haha

let me know which round file u use the most and for what. the only roundy i have is the tiny one in the economy file set, i used it very little in my dehorn work so far.

Buffing kit should be awesome, i have a similar one except it goes on my medium sized table mounted grinder.

gotta order my fire control tonight or tomorrow. Think i will jsut pick up a sear spring too. I belive its the tension you set on each spring leave that makes the difference, not the actual brand name of the spring.

Is that a regular vice grip, or the plunger tube staker? You are going to love the dremel accessory kit you have, i have a similar one. One thing i have to find is higher grit sanding drums for the dremel (like 320 or 400 grit). Any idea where to find it?

The GI I did a trigger job on for a buddy of mine. Regular vice grip. I already have a tube staker. As far as the dremel kit I get most of my roll discs and sanding drums from my local hardware store. they have boxes and boxes.

I dont really use the actual buffing wheels. I use the smaller ones in my dremel kit. I mainly use it for the compounds. I bought it for $1 a yard sale nad it hasnt let me down yet. Anywho..

nice. i rarely use my big buffing wheels also. Since no parts on my gun will be polished. Excepts for a few faces of the fire conrol parts, i wont be using them very much in the near future.

its was like 185 shipped. So i broke out the edbrown hardcore slide stop to night to start fitting that. And its bent, what a bummer. Going to have to get it replaced :( Waiting on the fire control parts to come in now. hope they come soon. gotta decide if i wanna do sites and a rail (dawson). That will add alot of cost to the project, so i think i am going to keep the stock mil sites and maybe do a dawson rail. we shall see.

i am sure u can get an awesome used vise for a fraction of the cost of a new one.

OMG! HAHAHA! I really want to buy a sight pusher but almost every smith I have met says to just use a brass punch. Anywho.. I still cannot decide what sights i want to use. Prlly will end up with the Heine straight eights. I had them on another carry i owned and actually fell in love with them. I didnt like the front sight post size but now they offer different sizes. anywho.. Keep us posted.

Its been a couple of days. Been busy around the house, haha. Anywho.. Stuff looks good. I got all my stuff together for the AR build for my father in law. BCG doesnt charge properly. Its binding up at the rear 1/4 of pull. I am thinking its binding on the buffer spring retainer pin that petrudes up in front of the buffer. Anywho.. I will deal with it later. I am waiting on an order of 3k rounds of .223 to come in so i can do some testing.
