I get to deploy in about a week or 2, i remember almost 2 years ago posting on here that i was joining the airforce/leaving georgia, and now im finally getting to deploy/leave texas. kinda surprised that its been so long but i guess it has, kinda weird, along with the fact that i still post here all the time. i dont see any chances of this but any of the other enlisted people here deploying anywhere? im actually going to qatar (not much of a deployment more of a TDY), so its not going to be bad at all, still have internet access in some places and a trailer to stay in, and plenty to do compared to other places. dont really care to hear about how qatar is where everyone else comes for R&R.....i already know, and particularly dont care, but im sure i will still hear it! but if anyone else is deploying or going to be around there let me know, ill be there 6 months. be kinda cool to see someone from here while over there.

He said he'll be there 6 months, not there IN 6 months. ;) lol

Anyways, to the OP, thank you for serving.

I know Just_Chill is deploying SOON, also. Not sure where to, though.

the base has been there a while and they have alot stuff built up there. nco's actually get to stay in dorm kinda buildings, and airmen get the trailers. its a really big trailer type thing broke down into rooms, tiny rooms though.....ontop of that, on base there is a pool, pizza hut, dairy queen, and BX (airforce version of a small walmart i guess?), and all kinds of stuff. thats probably why i would call it a tdy, over deployment, only thing making it a deployment is its in the middle of the desert.

p.s. i liked the edit too!

haha, i dont think i could pull that one off....you would have to get to know some bomber pilots, ive heard they carry some "unauthorized" items with them in the plane sometimes.

I would be upbeat also if I was going to Qatar. Easy tax free money with little to no danger involved. I am hoping to get another Afghan or Iraq deployment in the next year or so. Have fun over there. I have seen some pics from friends that got to go there while we were in Iraq, they had alot of fun.

hell yeah im happy, i got bills to pay! only thing that could make me happier is my wife moving home, so she could live for free, and i can make an extra grand a month from housing allowance that i wouldnt have to spend. im a 2W151L, which is armament, most of the job is people who work on the flight line and load the bomb on the aircraft but im backshop (another great thing making my easy deployment even better), so i work in a shop and inspect/clean/tear apart/rebuild/repair all the bomb modules which hold the bomb ejector racks, and each rack holds a bomb. then i work on the rotary launchers which holds bigger ejector racks, and each of those gets a bombs

i already dont pay taxes...so i really didnt care about that. texas has no state taxes, and i claim 4 independs (me, wife, 2 kids) on mypay so it doesnt deduct any federal taxes. most danger i will get into in qatar is probably the stupid things we will do when we get bored. im going to try and go TCN some time after this so i can go somewhere else other than qatar. i was put on the tcn list but they forgot i was deploying and took me off. i would have got to goto ali air base, think its in afghan. dont know, either way i heard its like the worst place to TCN. usually we goto balhad(sp?) though.

This place isn't bad at all. If I wasn't married I would try to get a six month extension on top of my six months here already. They had 4 of us packed in a 10x10 room for the first night but they got it down to two of us. Some captain gave me a tv which was cool. Can't legally have porn which is lame (can't say I don't though), but at 2am there some Russian lingerie show and they are topless! Then I got a haircut and it was kinda awkward, they massage and do this weird stuff on you head and neck when there done.

shit that was one long ass boring deployment.....was worth getting alot of stuff payed off, but i could have got a second job to do that. i could really care less about deploying again unless it was something with some sort of action. i would have rather have been somewhere else with a weapon doing something considered somewhat dangerous. only danger i was in at qatar was maybe a possible sprained ankle trying to run and catch the bus to work!

ive met a few intel people, they are pretty cool, right now im trying to figure out if i want to cross train to osi. cause at this point if i dont stay in there is next to nothing i can do with experience i got from my job. if i do osi and decide to get out that will help alittle with me doing something ide like more which would be fbi or secret service.

I have seen a couple people in this thread complaining about their "boring" deployments. Fuck that. I would love a "boring" deployment after 3 exciting trips which included such lovely spots as Kandahar, Khost, Fallujah, etc. The one upcoming this year should be even more "exciting" considering what is going on in Afghanistan. Sit back, bank your "combat pay" and enjoy your warm showers, fast food, and bases with all the amenities.

well if your were anything like me a boring deployment is not what you want, maybe once uve sat in qatar doing jack shit for 6 months you would know. qatar is nice, but its not worth calling a deployment, if im going to deploy ide like to be doing something. i under stand you being booty hurt over someone calling qatar boring, if the person saying that was one of the many little bitches that go there and cry about how it sucks, and act like it couldn't be any worse, when they were staying in the 4 star hotel dorms. but thats not me, i knew it could be a lot worse, and would much rather be in a worse place. oh, when its 110-140 degrees showers are warm whether you like it or not!

Do you have your CCAF? The Air Force has a program now where all credits from your CCAF will go towards your Bachelors at certain schools, you'd only have 2 years left of College from the start.

I'm currently at Charleston AFB (2T2 Air Transport) and there are a few guys getting "deployed" later this year. I want to deploy but I've been away 5 months already and I am still gone. I'm applying for OTS early next year and if accepted I'll skip deployment but if not I'll go ahead and do one late 2010.

i almost got my ccaf, ive been doing all the clep/dantes that i can pass that will apply to it, then ive done a few classes at AMU online. just a few more and im done. should have done some while i was gone but i didnt. ive thought of doing OTS but i think ide rather stick to enlisted, i made a few officer friends while i was gone and they deal with alot more BS than i thought.

I leave for OCS in November. Depending on which branch I get I'm planning on going to Ranger school. Short, exciting deployments for me. My first deployment was at the beginning of the Iraq war. That was pretty exciting to say the least.

I know none of you want a loose canon like myself as a commander, therefor those of you who do not know my identity already probably will not. I would hate for the stiffs to get a hold of my interwebs secrecy.

To answer your questions, LOL, I am at Ft. Benning now. Went from 173rd to 3/3 ID. The heavy world is kinda lame. Being an 11 series you have a good chance of coming here. But if you're lucky you'll sneak a cadre spot over there in TRADOC like Ranger School or something, then it'd definitely be easier to get in.....
