How often do you change your oil? I'm just curious.
97 Accord - 5k Conventional (not mine - just use it)
Hybrid - 10k Synthetic 5w20 (lot of highway - car doesnt idle)
Vette - 5k Synthetic 5w30

The color of the oil doesn't really mean much. If you really want to know the condition of your oil and its ability to protect your engine, get an oil analysis done (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/) It's ~24 bucks for a full report.
TBN analysis will tell you how much detergent is left in the oil. (10 bucks)
I found that changing the oil at anything below 5k for non-track use was useless.
Here is a sample report. This is from my vette. I did an oil change at 500 (just to see how the report turns out) and then at 5000. I'm about to do my 10k oil change and we'll see what that says.
The dates are wrong, the oil is from May/June 08 - not Nov.

Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30 was used both times. There was a trace of fuel found (I didnt warm up before oil change) and this probably reduced the flash point by a good bit.

So, in the truck that would be about every 100 miles? lol
My sister only changes the oil after the motor locks up due to having no more oil left in motor...   (drained all the oil out and it filled a SOLO cup 3/4 of the way. Wonder why it locked up)
I change mine around every 5k miles. Royal Purple...

Wow most of you change it every 3k!
For those who run synthetic, get an oil analysis done. If your TBN is ok, and you don't have much contamination, consider running it for 5k miles.

Yea you sound like my buddy with his old ass jetta when he had bad valve guide seals. You leave with a puff of smoke and burn oil pretty much the entire time. You cant see it but the guy behind you will hate forgetting his A/C on "fresh".
