Ok, I have a stock (except for AEM CAI) b16 00 Si. The car has 127k miles on it. Within the past few weeks I noticed that I no longer hear Vtec in 1st gear. Once I get into 2nd through 5th gears I hear it clearly.

Over at HondaTech everyone seems to think I "got used" to hearing Vtec in 1st and now I don't recognize the sound anymore. I can assure you, this is not the case.

Has anyone had any issues with not having Vtec in 1st gear? I checked the CAI and filter and there is no blockage there. Again, the motor is stock and I have done nothing to it.

are u letting ur car warm up before you let the energy from the universe unfold?

Yes, I always let my car warm up before any hard driving.

Is there a procedure or code puller that I should try to locate what is happening, or not happening inside my motor.....?

Well, I don't understand what is going on then, because my car sounds completely different now from when this video was made a few weeks ago.... 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th sound perfect. 1st has no sound at all and seems to run out of breath slightly around 6500+rpms...

Video of when my car was running correctly below:

i bet anything, your oil is low. and your not getting enough pressure to activate vtec. until your later gears.

I added a quart of oil tonight. Haven't driven it yet. We'll see how this affects it. Keep your fingers crossed!

The video was made when the car was running correctly. I'll try the car out later today and see if the quart of oil helped.

That might have been the problem since you did have to add a quart. Let us know what happens

You Lie!!! It has to be Vtec specific. 1w 3 weight is the right oil :) lol

I'm still currently an asshole.

Gears doesn't have anything to do with vtec!

Its motor, an computer controlled!

when you first start and the oil is low it will not hit vtec,

BTW you need to do some work to that car, can you say slow?

SOLVED!!

Thanks to everyone who recommended I do an oil change. I did that just now, took the car for a spin, and everything is perfect now!

I was afraid the problem was more serious than a simple oil change...

yes i know what you talking about my buddy had an ex with a 2000 si swap and his speed sensor was going bad and it was causing his vtec not to open up in 1st gear

You should have hooked up a toggle switch to it.

70% of the time, it works every time.
