Why am I getting so much grain at iso 400? I had high iso control on and long exposure control on as well. The lens is a Sigma 10mm-20mm.

Could it be the iso control trying to overcompensate? Please help!!

No idea on this one since I am not familiar with Nikon but it could be the controls causing this. But if you were on a tripod why not use ISO 100?

I don't know if this will help or not, but did you have Long Exposure NR on?

I did have Long Exposure NR on. I think it might have something to do with the high iso controls being on when they weren't needed. It was on the second level of noise reduction.

I should have been using iso 100. Arg. I'm going to go play with it tonight to try and get some better results.

why iso 400? just shoot it at iso 100 for 120 seconds....

that really shouldn't be the problem though...maybe your sensor was overheating or something, but that usually doesn't happen for exposures under a minute...

yeah you should have done a test shot with just iso 400/30 sec with out those extra things on, and then one with, but obviously you weren't expecting these results...

and finally, i really don't think the noise is that bad. but this is obviously a resized image, so its hard for me to see a problem

idk man, to me it looks like high iso, the same thing happened to my pics so i toned down the iso and it was gravy

Shoot ISO100 and also turn off the noise reduction thing. PP get the noise squared away.
