Soulja Boy, who is known for uploading popular videos to Youtube, has released another video that is stirring up a new controversy. In the video, the young rapper is claiming that Nas killed hip-hop by coming out and saying "hip-hop is dead." The video features Soulja Boy and two of his friends, eating at a kitchen table discussing the state of hip-hop. The conversation starts off with SB giving props to Lil' Wayne as the "best rapper alive." Soulja Boy continues to say that when someone in hip hop comes out and says something, it becomes true. He then starts to go in on Nas, who released an album titled Hip-Hop Is Dead back in 2007.

"[Nas] came out publicly and said 'hip hop is dead,' and then after that everybody started saying hip hop is dead," says Soulja Boy. "If Nas would have never said 'hip hop is dead,' then motherf***ers would have never thought it would have died. They would have never had that terminology."

As the conversation continues, SB continues to call Nas out for his statements. "He killed his own career with that sh*t. He should have thought about that sh*t though...You come out saying 'hip hop is dead' and you do hip hop, what the f*ck you doing? Shut the eff up and go in the studio!"

In the video, Soulja Boy commends other rappers for their statements. He describes "some good sh*t to say" as T.I. calling himself the king of the south, Lil' Wayne proclaiming that he's the best rapper alive, and 50 Cent saying he runs New York.

Soulja Boy goes on to assert his own title, leaving the comment open for someone to come back at him. He boasts, "I'm the king of the internet. It's something you could argue with, but it's not something you could take from somebody.

In short, SB sums up his video by making it clear that he disagrees with Nas. "Hip-Hop is dead, that's some strong *ss words."

I have to say that I think you are wrong, but this just is my opinion. Wayne is pretty sick. I didnt become a fan until I heard his mix tapes and I will be the first to admit that the stuff he puts out mainstream is nothing compared to his mixtapes. Not all of them though...I thought that Dedication 3 should have been titled differently since it was clear he was just trying to push his artists.

You cant compare the 2, like i say all the time its like comparing Dougie Fresh To KRS One... 2 different acts. AS far as popularity, and fame for their time..they are at the same pace as far as that is concerned. talent, lyrics is all opinionated.

JITB...like i've said before (and you know that i have a pretty good idea when it comes to music)...the music game has changed. it's not even about the art anymore. i think the issue that people are having with your statements are that the game isn't what it used to be. i posted that xzibit song for a reason...because that's what the game has become... julio was on point by mentioning NAS is a GOAT. he's one of few artist out there that i can think of who actually have "content" in their singles. yes, SB is making money, making tracks that the kids can jam to, etc....but he'll NEVER reach the level of NAS. he lacks TRUE SKILL...only a phase...a "5 hit" wonder. he's making hella bread from radio spins, ringtones, youtube hits, etc....but dude doesn't sell albums. nas was right...the game has taken a turn for worse...make a "jumping" track, and you get a deal.

Rap to me is now underground only. I can listen to the raido, but its mainly for the beats and hooks. They are jumping, but the lyrical content is horrible. I am seriously considering writing music again, SIMPLY because the content is non-existent.

I can get in my car and jam to Anthony Hamilton, Life Jennings, J. Sullivan, John Legend, etc......

Rap/Hip Hop is not what it used to be. Evolution is one thing, but to shame the game they way money hungry people are is running it down the toilet.

As far as Soulja Boy is concerned, along with entertainers of the like, I commend them on making SERIOUS $. Thye are entertainers, they are mastering the art of entertaining. No hate at all, but they are not hip hop, they are not rap. Maybe if KRS-One, Ice-T, Cube, Dre, Em, etc sat down with some of these noobs and dropped some knowledge on them they COULD become hip-hop artists. the reason people rap about those thing is thats what appeals to people alot now. lyrically it may not be great but rappers now are in the business to make money not history. a majority are strictly in the game for the fame and fortune.

chris brown is talented he doesn't bring down the game.
bow wow has been in the game for a long time. he is about to put out his 7th album he has his own fan base. that is success even if you dont like the music he continually delivers hit songs and sells record and venues. unlike soulja boy who was a one album then flop. regardless of who you are or bow wow lyrically delivers a different approach then most people. his delivery is different a young audience likes the catchy appeal that he brings and thats what he will continue to do i dont think he cares about what ia people think if he sales, he sales

50cent also has been a trend setter. i remeber going to a rock the mic concert and seeing him perform. i didn't like him much but the guy delivered a great concert. he brings energy on stage.


soulja boy is just a fade and trend he had some catchy songs but now they all sound the same so he isn't gaining anything. his delivery is subpar and everything is always the same. the only thing setting him apart from others is his club type beats. other than that he sucks still

soulja boy is comparable to vanilla ice. made one song that almost everyone knows the song too but now no one really talks about him unless he stirs trouble.
