so ive got the build in mind, its going to be a ka24de. ima do the turbo and all. but im wondering do i have to upgrade my crankshaft? i heard its a halfshaft or something like that. What does that mean even? but eagle rods, arp rod studs, cp pistons, rings & stuff included. but do i need bearings? and does anyone know anywhere... in alabama.... that can do head work?

Any time you build an engine you should get new bearings and measure clearances. Also, make sure you take it to a machine shop and have the whole bottom-end balanced. As far as the half-shaft, I have only heard of that with CV axles and such. Unless, they mean that the crank only has counterweights on half of its sides (top and bottom) not front and back like V type engines.

And as far as the crankshaft goes, you should be fine with stock if you are not going to be running crazy amounts of boost.

yeah...sired94 said...don't worry about the crank. one of the weakest parts of the ka are the rods. no offense, but if you're not sure what you're doing...just take the entire bottom end to the machine shop and have them measure ALL TOLERANCES. the only thing i'd get done to the crank is have them polish it.

i also wouldn't worry too much about having them do head work, unless you just want it leveled and cleaned. a nice cheap head upgrade (depending on what year ka you have), is installing 2 exhaust cams out of a 91-94 KA...they have a slightly higher lift....248degrees compared to 232degree. it'll feel a little more torquey, and will be noticeable on boost.

aside from that...i'd just make sure you buy a decent wastegate and blow off valve. i had a ebay wastegate and it stuck closed...i boost spiked and trashed my motor.
