board is going out.. aka amp is slowly dying

It could also be a grounding issue.

It could also be a grounding issue.

Doubt that as it would be the opposite with a grounding issue. As the volume rises, an inadequate ground will result in the protection coming on.

I agree with Dracc, sound like the board is dying.
